just looking into shaving down some fywheels. Is it worth the effort to ship it out and lighten it up?

I think that you can get about 1.5 lbs removed by machining. Call Paul at LPW 770-888-5772 and he can take care of it for you. I had one done by ProTec 10 years ago and have had no problems. Any weight you can take off the flywheel will make a difference in your brap.:biggthumpup:

That looks alot like my lightend flywheel. The 61x is lighter than the 62t anyway. I think they are about .2 lbs lighter

i asked him to take off .6 lbs but upon return he said that taking of .6 lbs was alot of material and he didn't take that much off???? he said it is still withing the tolerances it was when he started for balancing. I picked up a rad flywheel,so i am currently not running it/tried it, Ventec your welcome to try it if you want.

group k said that 1.5 has been done but it was unsafe, groupk removes .4 and i think protec did .6 lbs thats why i asked him to go for .6 on the outermost edges. he ended up not removing quite that much and cleaned up the entire wheel. I think it to be a reliable lightened flywheel.

When I did mine, I removed .5# and it was quite a bit of metal.

IM running one right now lightened by LPW in a 650, and it RIPS.
MSD, pipe, head, advanced timing. and it is extremely sharp and strong for a 650

Had two lightened by Paul, I believe ~.5lbs of metal from each one was taken off... and perfectly balanced. Sooo with that weight lose I decided to change from a Solas to a Skat

I've ridden a couple motors with a lightened flywheel and stock flywheel back to back - and the difference is most definetely noticable.
IMHO, it's one of those mods that don't cost a lot, are reliable, and bring good gains.
Performance mods sub-$100 are pretty rare, and this one $50-ish is pretty good bang for the buck.
I couldn't tell a difference with a Wetwolf cone (I am bad at noticing small power differences), and that was the same money.
EDIT: I most definetely wouldn't drop over $300 for an aftermarket charging flywheel. But 50-60 bucks for a lightened stocker - hard to beat.
(Of course, I prefer my total loss for my flatwater engine! :haha:
