What are the effects of setting back the complete pump, say 2"? I mean actually cutting out the intake and shoe and moving the whole oem setup back 1-2". Has it been done before?

My guess is that moving the pump back adds straigjt line stability, and would help back flips (if trim were added). I'm not very interested in shortening my hull.

a setback pump, if i understand it, helps because the intake cavity holds more water... relocating the intake area back 2" wouldn't be as beneficial as a setback pump since it wouldn't add any additional water capacity in front of the impeller... right?

OP, there was a build done in Australia for a full carbon blaster, I believe the builder moved the pump shoe and intake to the rear, and also added a bigger intake. You may want to contact him on here or on ozfreeride to see what he thought about the changes.

Not really. Cutting the hull reduces the wetted surface. Setting back the pump would not.

totally agree, after waking up and clearing the stupid out of my head hahaha.....setting it back 2" would provide the same steering advantages without the advantages of a shorter hull. this isn't the same as a setback pump as it seems he wants to move everything, including the intake back 2". essentially pushing the whole pump/intake assy back 2" on the same size hull.........interesting. I imagine it would ride a whole lot different. maybe better hook up at speed??

The mod hull'd blasters all had the pumps moved back. Some 2 inches, some 3.5. The theory is that by moving the pump back, it keeps the intake in the water longer as the ski bounces and it helps the pump reload faster. I can tell you that from years of riding mod and stock blaster hulls, I dont really notice the difference. At least in terms of hook up. But, my experience is with racing only, not freeriding.
