300/440/550 Sealing up a 550 for subs and surf riding

Hey guys, just curious what you all reccomend me to do to my ski to make sure it can handle the abuse I'm about to give it. It is a bone stock 1990 550SX, and I plan to really throw this thing around. I was thinking of possibly relocating the scoop on the hood? Maybe putting in some aftermarket bilges? Footholds/Straps? Let me know what you think will work and most importantly keep water out of it. For what its worth, I'm a motocross rider and I have never ridden a stand up before.

There are many threads in the MY SKI or SKI BUILDUPS section that show what can be done to these skis.

If you plan on all-out surf-type abuse you can consider the following:

Footholds.
Gutting the ski and re-inforcing all the stress areas with bi-ax or carbon fiber.
BULLDOG nose brace.
Pole limiting strap.
Electric bilges.
Lanyard system.
straight bars.
Quick-turn system.
Re-locating the air scoop to point backwards.
Hood lock-downs.

That's just off the top of my head.

Your like me coming fromm the dirt bikes world well welcome. First learn how to ride the thing your not going to be able to throw it around the first ride, Your going to have to get use to how it handles took me a few ride before i could stand up and turn.

As of the mods You need to upgrade your motor its going to struggle in the surf not enough power stock.

ok guys he is talking about like complete surf abuse. What if I wanted to take my 550 out in the surf jsut to ride and jump some waves. Maybe a nosestab here n there or a sub ro 2 but no flips or anything right now. Could that be done with a stock ski and if not what should I get for bare minimum surf riding

get some tubbies for the front - the ski will handle amazingly in the surf. And something to get water out (2 x 1100 bilge). D cut ride plate if you light. Mill head. Bore nozzle by 2 mm. Those are pretty "free" to do.
