Pump shimmed properly, took careful note to bag and mark each bolt and shim set individually when I took it apart. No sticking short or long shaft, everything has been taken apart and rebuilt exactly as before. Intermediate shaft length and press-in is to specs.
I was talking with Blowsion and Mike recognized what I was talking about, it's just that the rubber packing part is a bit larger in inside diameter than the inside diameter of the front-most edge of the wear ring. He said it probably wouldn't make much difference on performance, but he'd fill it. I'll probably do that.
Maybe I wasn't totally clear - when I said gap I just meant a small trough in the inside of the pump after the parts are mated together. Not a gap as in seeing daylight or water spewing out the side of the pump.
(Btw - Mike - you and all the guys at Blowsion rock, I have never had a bad moment ordering or on the phone just shooting the sht with you all, always helpful to a fault. Thanks for all your help, and I'll let you know how the new pole spring for my 1990 SJ is doing when I get it in next week
