Sealant between pump and shoe?

Pump shimmed properly, took careful note to bag and mark each bolt and shim set individually when I took it apart. No sticking short or long shaft, everything has been taken apart and rebuilt exactly as before. Intermediate shaft length and press-in is to specs.

I was talking with Blowsion and Mike recognized what I was talking about, it's just that the rubber packing part is a bit larger in inside diameter than the inside diameter of the front-most edge of the wear ring. He said it probably wouldn't make much difference on performance, but he'd fill it. I'll probably do that.

Maybe I wasn't totally clear - when I said gap I just meant a small trough in the inside of the pump after the parts are mated together. Not a gap as in seeing daylight or water spewing out the side of the pump.

(Btw - Mike - you and all the guys at Blowsion rock, I have never had a bad moment ordering or on the phone just shooting the sht with you all, always helpful to a fault. Thanks for all your help, and I'll let you know how the new pole spring for my 1990 SJ is doing when I get it in next week :)

I got a similar question.

I was fitting my pump sections back together last night and noticed that there is a slight 'step' on the rear of the wear ring. I put the wear ring on (sitting flush on pump housing) but could still fell this little step at the rear of the wear ring. It's right behind the impeller. It's not a gap between pump sections, just a small \_/ shaped part around the rear of the wear ring.
I did not notice it on my old WSM plastic wear ring, but that does not mean anything. There is no gasket or anything that goes in between the wear ring and pump housing.
Is this normal?
TIA
