Scupper.. Versiplug or Epic

Not to beat a dead horse but what rout should I go? Same price about, epic has the new recessed version.

So far I've read that both leak. The epic magnets rust quickly(stainless ones now perhaps?). I feel like the flap style scupper will flow water more steady and faster than a ball to get around.

I don't like that the versaplug just uses set screws for one, how tight can it be, and two you know they are going to get stripped out eventually.

Go!

If ur in surf a scupper is a no-no. Doesn't matter the brand. Flat water is different for me...I use one but they require regular inspection. I've used several brands. 24-7, xmetal, epic v.1 & 2, and versi-plug. The safest seems to be the versi (in terms of upkeep). It's not gonna have a flapper dry rot or tear and leave u with a gaping hole plus those screws aren't gonna strip if u tighten them properly. There's a double Oring around the outside of the versi barrel that seals it inside the Pvc tube. It still needs inspection especially after uve done any zip tie work in the bilge area.

I currently run 2 Xmetal scuppers but inspect them every time before I ride. I think they're the pits in terms of safety and sealing ur hull but they came on my ski so until one of them wears out then they gonna stay only out of default. All other flapper scuppers fall into this category. Except...

The new epics seem to be the apex of the flap type scupper. Being recessed saves a lot of potential problems since most skis sinking (due to scupper failure) is due to the flapper ripping off from tail landings. The recession keeps it safe and the magnets do their job in freshwater.

When the scupper gets to the point of being worn out it doesn't seal. Or the rubber deforms
I put a versa plug in at the beginning of this season and forgot all about my scupper problems. Versa plug is the only thing id ever use again. Just make sure you don't have things break and get stuck in the tube. I had 2 battery trays break and a zip tie in mine at one point.

My scupper isn't able to open fully since it's in the pump cavity, and bolts and suck have gotten stuck in it, so I glassed a screen in the engine compartment to keep that big stuff from getting to the scupper.

Versiplug max in a 2 inch pvcis the hot ticket for an sj in surf.

You can still hose out your engine bay at the end of the day.

A good way to clean out the tube is to jam a screwdriver to hold the ball open, then backflush the tube into the engine bay with compressed air or water to get the zip ties/broken parts out of there.

You still won't get all the water out... The scupper tube will sit above the bottom of the hull. My scupper tunnel is actually a part of the hull, so there is no lip, but it's not dead centered in the hull, so it still doesn't allow everything to drain out.

I get that but I can at least push all the sand that way with a hose. And at that point I can easily vac out what sand doesn't make it. There was an alarming amount of sand when I took my motor out. :/

Also my bilge air locks a lot it seems

SO FAR CHANGE SUCKS!!!!!!
Yea I remeber when I got my first sj bran new. After every ride I would take a towl and sop it out then put a fan in there. Then I started riding way to much and just not worry about that anymore lol

That that versiplug and try it out imo.... regardless of which one you choose it's way better than stupid bilges. Always something wrong with them... and sometimes you leave them on and end up with dead battery lol
