I wanted to make a flush install for a scupper on my project ski... anyone have any pictures? I don't care if it goes out the back, or in the pump area... But I do want it to be a flush mount if I can help it...

I am trying to think of how to make it strong, and hold, was thinking of gluing it in place with 5200, then glassing it in smooth/flush..

But is there a better/stronger way? or doesn't it need to be all that strong because of the foam?

TIA!!:cheer:

I just installed my one way valve this winter. It is one that is used in plumbing. I glued it with 5200 from the inside of the hull. Then I glassed it flush on the outside. I think it looks mint. I also glassed the tube that goes to the engine compartment. I ran this at Daytona, works great!

Anyway here are some pics.

sjet that looks great! Did you reinforce the top part only of your hull or is that just paint? or??

Thanks 2lick I will check that out!

Well I think what I'm going to end up doing is the homedepot one way, and empty it into the pump area...

Doing this will help me sit around in the water without the ski sinking, and having it empty into the pump area it will help save the one way from blowing out, and also then I don't have to worry about such a clean finish job...

Anyone have any ideas on that?

I didn't reinforce the top. That is just paint.

Just so you know, this one way valve does not leak at all when it is sitting in the water!!! This valve is great!!!! I wouldn't do anything different if I was to do it again.

what brand is your one way??

What do you think about the idea of dumping the water into the pump area?

I was thinking of moving the one way up to the "firewall" and 90ing it into the pump area...

I am not sure what brand it is. The case is all hard plastic(black). The middle is square and both ends are round. I think it is a 2'' one way valve. The rubber flap is reinforced with a steel plate for strength. You should be able to find it at Lowes or a plumbing store.(20.00)

As for leting it dump into the pump area, I think that is personal preference. The straighter the pipe is, the faster the water will exit. Plus I like the out the back look.

Yes, but I was thinking of not having the one way blow out from a tail landing... I really like to land tail down... and dip into the water backwards....

so I didn't want the one way to blow out (as I've read they might do) so this would help stop that... I know I would lose a little drain speed, but I am also backing the one way up with 2x rule 500s

Well, if you are worried about the one way "blowing out" then drain out by the pump area.

I am not worried about that happening. I think my valve is plenty strong enough to handle years of hard riding. I will be landing tail first also.(50/50's)

I don't use my bilge pump much anymore, since I put the valve in!

Good luck

Pump area it is... Sounds like its the best route to take... no major back pressure on the oneway from tail landings, and I don't think the 90 will kill drain speeds.....

anyone have the name of the valve with the reinforced plate in it? is it stainless. i have been holding off on doing this because all i can find is cheap plastic flap valves, or spring loaded ones that seem too stiff...

Not After Fame & Fortune
the reinforced valves are found at lowes where the sump pumps are. the metal is galvanized steel so it will not rust. from what i found that they still leak quite a bit. i had the homedepot valve (flotec) and the lowes valve side by side upside down filled with water and the lowes valve would empty in seconds where as the flotec valve only lost an inch of water in 10 minutes.

When I redo my footholds and refoam I am going to do dual one way valves that dump into the pump area. And the pickups will be in the center under the drive shaft. As stated you wouldn't have to worry about a blow out and it keeps a smooth look on the back.

I used my sons 300 sx as a test platform but I had it exit on the outside. Here are the pictures of a center located drain that exits out the side of the ski. I used urethane to hold everything together. Urethane is what we use at work and with the right primer it will hold well enough to rip a layer of fiberglass loose trying to pull it off.
