did it ever occure to this kid to jump off the ski before he hit the dock?

He hit the dock didnt he, so, I guess not.........

I have jumped off 2 runabouts in the same location before......... 1st time was on a 94 raider, was heading towards shore ( I know, stupid) and when to turn, they have an interesting quirk where they dont like to turn (literally, did not want to turn), kissed the bank. 2nd time was on my wifes BlasterII, heading to the same place, being stupid, waiting to turn at the last minute, if you ever rode a B2 you would understand, they turn on a dime., exept when they hit reserve right when you go to turn......... needles to say I bailed. When I came up, the ski was not there.......... was really confused...... heard some noise, looked up the hill, the B2 was slidding down the hill backwards about 30 feet up the embankment....... not a scratch on it. funny thing was, the embankment was undercut from wave action, the ski hit the on spot where the land actually made a slop right to the water, about 2 ft wide!!!!!!

this was in 96

thats f'ed up. I feel for the parents. They will suffer the most because it was their fault. My kids ride with me, never without. And it will be that way until they are at least 16. Kids do stupid stuff just because its their nature. No matter what you tell them or teach them. :(

wow. Lake Washington (in where else, but Washington) is soo much more chill. Here you can ride any ski when your 14, w/o any certification or safety course or anything.

I've been riding skis since I was 14 and in ohio back then you had to be 14 to ride alone. The law since has changed. Now if your born after jan 1 1982, no matter how old you are you must take a boaters saftey course. Well I took this course this summer because my girlfriend was born in 82. So she had to take it in case we were ever to get pulled over. The course was pretty pointless in terms of saftey and boat operation in general. All it really teaches you are the rules of boating, and whats required to have on board a boat. That is all good information to know, but I think there needs to be instructions on in water operation aswell. I've always practiced "common Sense" when riding and I think if you respect the crafts, and ride smart you will be fine. I do think that todays watercraft are too big, and too fast for most inexperenced kids. I have a modded 06 rxp and I hate letting people ride it because its just to much to handle for people who have never ridden before. I think as far as kids go, if they can ride a 4 wheeler and dirt bike, then you can operate a jet ski aswell. They just have to be taught to use common sense and ride with someone older until there experence grows. I dont think they should be riding the stupid fast newer models though.

for some reason i feel the need to chime in here (bored at the office).
i look back on my years as a kid and thank my parents for instilling a sense of responsibility and a respect for dangerous situations. i am no saint though, just look at the 12 stitches later thread in the carnage section for proof! lessons are learned only by having experiences. this kid, if he made it, will probably not make that mistake again and hopefully people who know of it will not do the same/teach their kids the lesson!

That's too bad.... Safety 1st... who knows... the ski might of malfunctioned, and the kid didn't think to jump off.... all I can say is, try to be safe but.....

When it's your time to go..... you go....
