Ruptured Eardrum.......again

Well i ruptured the damn thing again. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

went up for a roll on a big ass wakeboard boat wake, and came down right on the ear. it's the same ear as last year, and this time i had my helmet on. i guess i need something with better ear protection than a Gath. this sucks, no more freestylin this year.:bs2:

I've heard of a few people doing their eardrums with Gath's. I've thought about lining the inside of my ear vents with neoprene or something like that to deaden the impact on the inside.

yea i did that. i have some hydro turf underpad stuff in there, but the problem was the impact was kind of forward as well as to the side, so the water must've just creeped up the front and SMASH. needless to say, i'm probably going to have to go for a full face that has the entire side of the head closed off.

I'm attempting my first roll here VERY soon... hopeing i can get a XMW pole first...
but deff wanna do anything i can to prevent my damn ear from x-ploding

yes i would definately block it off somehow. i always thought that it was the sudden rush of water that actually ruptured it, but my doctor informed me that it's actually the air that gets caught between your eardrum and the water that has nowhere to go but in. so actually, the smaller the hole, the worse off you are because the more pressure it will create. i have an old bellistic that has no holes at all on the sides, so i guess i'm gonna have to go with that from now on.

The other thing you could try is the moulded earplugs you can get made by an ear specialist, I haven't had any probs since I got mine and I've had a few hard slaps to test them. Oh yeah you can get ones that float too.

well i've tried a motocross helmet before, they're just too big and bulky. the bmx ones are the way to go, i just gotta find one with no vent holes.

i actually have those proplugs from last time, they're great until they actually get wet, then they slip right out which kind of defeats the purpose.

I just got one of these, it was designed to prevent eardrum damage. Super lightweight.

Just remember if you use a helmet that there is a danger of neck injury, particularly with the larger heavier helmets.

i was actually thinking that when i bought this gath helmet. i have a tendancy to slam my head pretty hard to the side on rolls gone bad, and i was wondering if a bulky heavy helmet would cause some neck problems.
