Running out of air for the carbs?

Hopefully you guys can help on this one. I have a diablo waterdawg hood two breather tubes in the front. 760 engine with oem mukuni 44s, was running oem 38s. Also just put the epic in as well. Seems like everytime I go under water it will run like crap for about a minute afterwards. A buddy said the carbs are running out of air and loading up with fuel. I thought it was water ingestion but just put a new hood seal on from watcon. I tried letting off the throttle more after he said that and it seems to not get as bad. He recommened putting another breather tube towards the back of the hood for more air. I have 2 inch tubes in now will a 1.5 inch be just as good in the back?

I do have some aftermarket 44s coming in this week.

Two tubes should be enough. Make sure you don't have anything blocking the tubes, or even packaging material in them.

Had this happen with a used wammer hood I bought from Wamiltons years ago. The hood would not flow enough air, just a bad build. You may have the same. How deep are your tubes? What size. Size does matter. You may need to open of the rear intakes, see if they are obstructed by resin and glass.

Also, throw on another hood to test theory.

Should I relocate one to the rear? Someone told me them being so close together causes them to get blocked with water and making the carbs run out of air? What size tubes are you running and what lenght? Touching the bottom of the ski?

ride it around with no hood. If it runs great the hood is your problem.

I also noticed you said this "Seems like everytime I go under water it will run like crap for about a minute afterwards" That makes me think your problem is water ingestion and not a lesser amount of air than the motor requires. Try a stock hood or no hood and you can rule out the air issue.

also if your pipe is hot it may be steaming water when you dive then carbs sucking in the steam

If anyone has a cure for that, I've love to hear it.

I have to run my engine for a good 5-10 minutes hard after submerging the hood or condensation forms thick in the carb intake.

I have a one way valve, a bilge, and new watcom hoodseal. I don't think water is the main issue, might be a lil part but not the main. I never thought of the pipe vapor and coupler spray (i have the cover) I do have the stock air intake that covers both carbs and has the rubber 90 degree end facing down, so it is somewhat restricted compared to others. l go under, come up and look at my bilge outlet and there is no water coming out. The back of the hood is doing its job by getting all the water out into the tray.

The switching hoods is a good idea.

I also have noticed when reving it with the cover off that gas sprays back up out of the carbs. That is worn reeds correct?
