Running no foam under the tray?

I forgot!
Jett's ski will not sink if he swamps his engine bay, not even close unless he takes on alot of water in the back of his hull while riding shich it shouldn't because he just recently sealed it all up.

Reinforce the footholds, foam the gunwales and glass them in so that foam will never get wet but the sides will be strengthened, reinforce the front of the tray (I wrapped all the way around with 12" wide 17oz biax), make sure the tray is glued to the pump tunnel for support in the rear, add extra floatation up in the nose to help the ski float.

And don't blame me if it sinks, I haven't tested that theory yet.

Let me ride it I will be glad to test it for you.:smashfreakB:

What is the best way to seal up the bond line in the tray?

1) 5200 in the bond line and cover with glass for reenfocement?

2) Glass and microballoons in the bond line and cover with glass for reenforcement?

which way would you think is stronger??

Mine is not like that, the entire bottom of the ski is open all the way back to the scuppers. The upper deck is foamed/glassed over. I also foamed/sealed some in the nose area and have added some water noodles in the nose 'just in case'.

"hex drive with flange" I got 1/4-20 thread size. Then I grabbed some stainless 1/4-20 button head screws and some neoprene sealing washers.

I drilled a 5/16 (or 11/32?) hole and then threaded the insert in. Coat the insert with 3M 5200 sealant.

I may take my 16" long 5/16 drill bit to the back of Christin's ski and see how much water I can get out without defoaming.

After viewing many threads and considering many options, one fell into my lap yesterday.I was disassembling a TS that I bought that had blown up,and I mean literally blown up,the ski was almost in two pieces so I decided to finish it off and make it two pieces. When I did two nice pieces of polystyrene flotation foam came out,a little burned on one end but they are way too long anyway,so I cut them to fit into the hull and around the pump tunnel.Thats what I will be running vs the no foam route.

Great idea. I had planned that too and had a dead polaris here that I thought would donate foam. But my scuppers, and my trim tube, and dual cooling, and all sorts of stuff in there would have made it nearly impossible to get large pieces of foam inside the hull.

Broken up pieces of polystyrene won't offer much if any structural support unless you also use 2 part foam to fill in the voids. I knew that 2 part would get water logged eventually so I just gave up on foam. I reinforced the footholds, but am a little scarred about the front of the tray. Hopefully it holds up OK.

I LOVE the drains..oh yeah, I didn't get a package of 50, I bought a package of 4 at Home Depot. McMaster-Carr was just an easy place to find a picture. It it sealed up well enough now that I think it would float for nearly 12 hours if the engine bay got swamped. Surely I could get rescued by then.

the front of the tray on mine was the part that gave me worries too, i beefed it up a bit and then made sure to use the thicker underlay foam to help absorb impacts. i tested it by putting both feet together and jumping on it trying to break it, i figured it would be better to break it in the garage testing it than on the water. two seasons so far on it and it seems to be holdling strong. i also made an alum plate that i put a foam seal on and bolted it to the close an acess hole in the side of the tray, if my scupper gives me any problem i just peel the turf up from the bottom and unbolt the plate so i can acess the problem. 2 seasons on it too. i stuff chunks of rigid foam in there, just for fun, nothing too tight , no 2 part foam cause that is messy and a PITA.

I put the foam in this morning,I am going to bore a hole through it for the rear exhaust, and also cut a channel out for the scupper if I actually install a scupper that is,still debating on that one,it looks like some creative heating of the cable run and cooling-bilge tubes will give me channels for those to lay into. This hull is pretty flimsy so I need all the extra support I can get.:sneaky:
