Super Jet run-away motor question

so I went to start my SJ on the trailer before putting it in the water (trailered it further than normal and I turned the fuel selector off when I normally leave it on), and put probably 4-5 shots of primer which is more than what I normally shoot in. The ski ran away and rev'd out of control, luckily I was able to get it to die after only a couple seconds of reving out. I rebuilt my motor last fall, new gaskets, pistons, rings, seals, all OEM etc and did several leak down tests to confirm that I did not have an air leak (had a leaky base gasket last year). My question is: can giving it to much primer and having a little extra air in the gas line cause the motor to runaway? Or do I have another air leak? I started it up on the trailer again after that and it seemed fine. When you do have an air leak, does the motor runaway every time, or does it happen sometimes but not all the time (out of the water)?

It should happen everytime if there is a significant air leak. How did you get it to shut down? Are you sure it was a runaway, and not maybe your throttle was stuck slighly open? It doesnt take much to make em rev to the moon out of the water.

It should only take 1 squirt of the primer into the carb to start it. If its taking more, something is up. You can also pop a waterbox if you shoot too much fuel into it and then try and start it, so be careful.

a true leak will run away every time as it is always lean.
sometimes the right conditions of dry carb, primer shot and no fuel in the fuel lines
can make it do that.
Keep an eye on it and if it happens again investigate further
