rules on riding in surf?

so im getting a sj soon to ride on flat water for now but later this summer i might go to daytona or sarasota fl. what rules are there for riding in the surf? i searched yahoo but nothing except boat lawyers came up. ive heard there are rules to how close u can be to the coast.

what exactly are the consequences for riding close in if caught? the area im going in daytona isnt very busy. and can u launch from the beach? is it just treated like a no wake zone or something? ill look through that link more but i dunno if i saw anything about this. only problem is, id probally be riding alone :(

If you ride at Daytona and want to launch off the beach I believe you need to buy a permit from Volusia County and you have to ride in a certain zone (see: http://volusia.org/beach/pwcnorth.htm)
I rode over in Daytona (excluding the Freeride) about two years ago and launched from Ponce Inlet (I think that's the name - there's a light house and a bird sanctuary there) and although the salt water isn't great for your trailer, I believe you only have to pay for a parking permit ($3 to $6).

no parking permit at Ponce... Just park next to the bird sanctuary and it's free.

I don't recommend Sarasota for surf. I can most likely meet you out at the beach and show ya the ropes if you come to Daytona...

the rules of the surf are simple:

1. Dont let go of your boat
2. Dont let go of your boat
3. keep you head on a swivel
4. dont let go of your boat


that about covers it!

Surfriding with other guys has alot of "respect the better rider" to it..Like surfing

always right in or out....never parallel to shore


if you are are heading toward a wave and someone who is a more advanced rider is heading for the same one, throttle off and give it up..

other than that watch your depth, and have fun!
