RRP steering system?

image.jpg image.jpg I installed my steering system today on my stock RN pole. I was able to get the chin pad modified although I was only able to get the adjustment about half way out on the plate due to hitting the chin pad mount. I ground it down as far as I could but I was hoping for more than half way out. Is this normal or am I missing something?

My blowsion steering on my Rn hits too, can only use the middle unless I remove the chin pad. My rrp steering on rrp poll clears and is at max adjust. I think an aftermarket chin pad that mounts differently could help, my rrp steering stop is the mounting point for my chin pad near the bars then there is two more outer chin pad mountings at the other end of the chin pad away from cable. I could post a pic in the morning

Thanks for the feed back, good to know. If you have a pic, that'd be cool. Thx

So much for this morning, lol....watercraft factory in Florida makes these types of chin pads as well as others.

Thanks for the pics, they were helpful. It seems like this steering setup is either too tight or too loose, hard to get it perfect. If I loosen it to where it feels good, there seems to be to much play between the upper and lower plate where the big o-ring sits. Has this been your experience?

I see you don't have the Zerk fitting installed in the pic for bearing lube. I was trying to verify we have the same set up and that threw me for a sec

Mine is on a new poll, not sure if that's makes a difference as far as wear on poll plate goes.

Mine is pretty tight, not binding but close, it's wAy tighter than a stock SJ steering. This might be throwing you off....on work stand it's a firm feeling with some effort required to turn the bars, no play at all, this is normal. on The water you don't even notice. So you may need to go tighter and get that play out but stop right before it's binding if that makes sense. It will feel over tight prolly to you at first, But fairly tight and firm steering with effort required to steer it on the work stand is normal

Torque to rotate is prolly around 20 to 25 inch pounds maybe a little more

I took that pic before I installed the zerk fitting. I also learned not to over grease it, mine blew the o-ring out of the side.

Makes sense what your describing. I'll tighten her down and test it out at the lake. The steering improvement has been nice. Turns on a dime, night and day from before. Takes some time to get used to and that's only half way out! Thx again for the feedback.
