i know they make those really nice billet handlepole brackets to change your pole on a square to a roundnose pole, however i was wondering if i got a stock round bracket could/would it be feesible to mount it on a sq nose? any help would be great..

i think either way is fine. the only thing is that the stock round bracket on a square doesn't let the pole rotate as far forward.

get a conversion bracket or any rn bracket and it will work on a square.

so what your saying is the stock r/n brkt will work but the pole may not rotate as far forward. do you know how much it limits it?
i'm trying to help out a buddy with a stock sq/n but he does'nt want to spend alot of money, also only rides in the ocean.. thanks for the input again

im doing the same thing so i did research on this...

the squares surface the bracket mounts to is actually slanted backwards.

on a roundnose the brackets surface is slanted forward.

so either you get a round bracket and deal with the little lost travel of the pole. or you could build up the backwards slant to more of a flat surface and that would help. some one also mentioned trimming the rubber stop or milling the stop a little.

personally i think the bracket is fine the way it is and wouldn't worry about it. since its an ocean boat i would use a limiting rope to prevent it from over extending.

thats what i have gathered from researching this. i am probably going to go with a stock bracket for now and i do not think it will be a problem. theres a bracket on ebay right now thats cheap.

If I was to do it again I would cut out the area of the hull where the bracket mounts and glass it in flat.
The square has that area at an angle, if you have a breather tube the pole will kink it much sooner than it would on the round.
That angle sets the pivot point of the pole slightly further back as well.

On my next go around I will just make that area flat. Not only will my pole swing higher and be further forward but it will also lover the pole mount.

I put a round pole on a square bracket. Used some washers and ground the front of the pole down a bit and I get alot of travel. This was temporary for the end of the season but this winter im just going to weld the washer together and reinforce the nose. No probs at all.
