Roll/Flip off boat wave help...

For those of you who have done a backflip or barrel roll off of boat waves, what wave do you hit? Second or first? Seems like for a backie attempt the first one would be the best so the little curl would help push you up/over. And the second one the best for rolling so you can set-up in the trough. Any input? I still cant get past the half way on a roll - I more or less do an invert stab.

Any advice would be sweet, thanks!

For a backy hit it just like you see a double up hit...you go down over the first wave (white wash) slow, than brap the crap out of it up the second because thats when the wake it at its steepest....IMO

For rolls some say its easier to hit the White wash, but I dont like to get that close to boats...so, I hit the second wave. I have a problem with not getting forward enough but the trick is to use your weight and get low over the ski.

that makes sense should I lean as far back as I can when first hitting it? For what wave to hit - I just always seem to get alot more vertical air hitting the first wave a ski length or two off the back of the boat (dont worry I usually wait till they point at it for me to hit)

I have trim too, I've gotten halfway around a roll off small waves using it. I am assuming any bit of help is good off bigger waves?

haha, you and me have two different type weapons for a backflip, I have a shorted hull on my stock square. I need to hit at least a 45 foot cruiser to get all the way around...those things shoot up a good 4 foot wake behind them.

I find it easier though to flip the steeper the wake, some big cruiser could be throwing rollers and very hard to hit but a wakeboard boat can get a wake nice and steep. It sucks cause it all depends on the boat drivers mood that day:banghead:

Second wake for rolls, Plus don't think to much about the roll, just hit it. My mind is blank right before the wake, i just go for it, crank the bars & enjoy the roller coaster ride.:brap:

This is what I've found for rolls. It is hard for me to judge the whitewash. It's just so much nonsense going on with the water. I usually hit wake from the drivers side of the boat (right side) 2nd wave, come at 45 from wave turn right then hard left and eat the nose, and pray. :lmao:

The trim won't help you when trying a roll off a wake, only a backy or flatwater setup wake.

I watched your helmet cam video a while ago. You get some good height on a standard air. You should be rolling in no time. Try to cut into the wave at more of an angle, helps with body momentum and the ski is already beginning to turn.

I do this with stabs off of waves.

Its like a speed check, I noticed JK does it too when coming up to a big wave. Seems to help.
