Blaster Rockered/Chopped reducing porpoising

I finished my Carter B rockered and chopped blaster at the begging of last year. I know this ski is not made for lake riding so I am by no means complaining. I was blown away with how fun this ski is to ride and it is better in so many ways. I do find my self riding it decent distances on the lake and it does not cruise very well. It porpoises unless you are way up on the front. Now if this is what it is I'm not worried about it but I am just checking to see if anyone has had any luck with different ride plates or anything to make it a little more friendly.

I cut my ride plate pretty short. It is similar to the one in the picture. I just purchased another stock plate so I am going to do some experimenting with that. I have a stock gas tank and battery relocated to the front.

I ride mine on the lake a lot too or a good ways to get out to surf. I found if I ride in somewhat of a surf stance, left foot near the front of the footwell and right foot rearward I can lean the ski left slightly and it will not porpoise if you lean it right. Can even rip it max speed. Just have to compensate for the lean with some steering. Works well for me.

iain fin1 n 180.jpg This is a issue with these rear ends. We worked on one in NZ earlier this year and we ride of most of the porpoising by wedging the ride plate rear bolts. But still had issues as we did not know what lth the ride plate should be. We decided to build a prototype adjustable ride plate. That being done, took the wedges out and dialled in the ski just by adjusting the lth. This ski now can be held WOT and runs dead straight. Having a adjustable ride plate I feel the only way to dial in the ski to suit the riders weight. What works for one guy doesn't mean it will be the same for the next ski. Im hoping to be able to bring this plate to market this year.

the adjustable ride plate would be sweet. I am glad to find out that messing with the ride plate does fix it. I have a spare stock plate I will cut longer.

@701dave can you tell me how long the spacers are you used to wedge the rear bolts?

Ha Will, in testing on the beach with the ride plate the customer was running we ended up with about 8mm spacing under the rear bolts before we got most of the porpoising out of it. But he said it was still not feeling quite right. Now with the adjustable ride plate, there is no wedging required and was adjusted out until the porpoising stopped. The customer now says he can ride this ski WOT and is awesome. But with everyone weighing different, I would start with 5mm and keep testing until you are happy.
