Super Jet RN Superjet Rebuild... nothing elbow grease and natty light cant fix.

So my first thought is I Just want to get this boat back in the water before the water cools off so my plan is to just do the things necessary to get it running again and worry about pretty later (hopefully before daytona 2012). First order of business was pulling the motor, pump, and mid shaft. I found carnage in all 3 not a great start but fixable..kinda. =( Its got a 61x/62T motor w/dual 38s. The motor is going to need a new crank and I will leave the pistons & jugs alone for now since it was blowing 170psi even on the aftermarket head before it was taken apart. I have flipped the hull over and starting to do some glass work. I repaired 1 intake grate insert that was broken clean off and pulled the broken pump shoe off too. The drive shaft fell out of the pump when I pulled it so bearings are an obvious in there. The tray looks like it was previously gutted and has a 2 (leaky) scuppers a trim tube and extra cooling line so the serious work was already done for me somewhat. Here are the first few pics of my new (to me) ski! Also patched up what looks like it was a previous front exhaust hole & repaired the ends at the bottom of the hull? stern? i dunno the bottom where its been dragged too much and worn thin.

no fear baby! lol

few more pics

So I got my new crank from getwet76 last night (thanks bro) and installed it this afternoon. The old crank bearings are pretty well frozen up now that it is dried out... total waste. I am waiting on a pump shoe to come in the mail so I can install that and then I can flip the hull over and install the motor. Cant frikin wait!!! I think the orange is growing on me, I may end up going with something orange on my paint scheme when I get to that point I like the looks of it when it sits next to my green and gray square nose. Here are a few more pics... I have no idea what head this is there are no markings anywhere I would love some input from someone in the know.

Got my pumpshoe installed

My aluminum pump shoe from snowxr came in the mail today GREAT looking piece! I ordered it right off his website www.xr-tech.com very reasonable prices I might add. I used 5200 marine glue to secure it to the hull along with the 4 screws. Once the glue dries I can put the pump back on and flip the hull right side up. =)

pump

Well I scored a pretty cherry stock superjet pump cheap on fleabay so for now I have abandon trying to rebuild the other one. Once I get the junk stock impeller out I am going to put in a 12/17 skat trak swirl and I guess just use this stainless wear ring although I am not sure that is a good idea after seeing the condition of the old impeller...

Oh also got the worx grate installed on the new pump shoe blingin ;)

Mental Note: Yes I know I should be ashamed of the condition of the old impeller splines =\ that sucker is on there good I am heading to the store today to get the right tool =)

Impeller 1 natty light 0 lol

right side up

So I got that old stock impeller off OMG it only took a bench vise, 25" breaker bar + 2' cheater bar and MAP gas heat to get it off LOL. I found fishing line wedged in there when I finally got it free. Either way the pump is now on and shimmed dead center on the mid shaft hole so thats good. I got the new mid shaft installed and motor installed too as well as the dual cooling lines, B pipe, and electronics installed this weekend. Now I think all that is left is to get the carbs setup right and fuel lines installed and it should be ready for a water test! Hopefully that will happen some time this week.

first start failed

Well I finished assembling everything and to my dismay when I finally hit the starting button nothing... figures. I took apart the ebox to check for something obvious and didn't see anything. I finally narrowed it down to a bad starter sucks cause I ended up ripping out the entire motor to get to that sucker. Anyway new starter will be here soon and back in she goes. I did however take the time to go ahead and install my MSD enhancer while I had the ebox open. =)

Yes it says RCJS on the sticker but I didn't put that on there it came like that.

maiden voyage

Well today was the day. Dropped it in the water and away she went and it ran great! I do still have some tuning to do. I noticed after a short wide open run the throttle was quite sluggish and would clear up after a second or so. I also noticed that the front nose piece was flapping on the 2 screws that hold it in secure so I need to figure out a better way to hold it down on the front maybe a short piece of rubber strap or something. Also the scuppers are still leaking pretty good not horrible but since it will be floating around the sand bar on the lake next summer it has to be fixed. Not sure what direction I will go if I will get the versiplug or just cap them all together. Anyway these are going to be my last pics and updates to this thread until I get ready to strip the turf and paint it over the winter.

Enjoy!
