RN grate to shoe fitment - newbie alert...

Got a question, I'm a bit confused... If this has been addressed previously I didn't find it in my searches, my apologies - I'm new to SJ's and standups. Have a 00' RN

I have replaced the shoe (stock grate holes stripped out) - replacement was a Worx shoe. Installation was easy, it fit like a glove - nice finish work on it, didn't have to modify anything.

Here's the question... The grate does not seem to line up very well to the shoe. The rear mounting surface extends out past the curve of the shoe. That made me think - do I have the wrong shoe? Shoe seems to fit the hull perfect.

Have 2 grates, Worx 201 (just got), and an older Jet Dynamics w a big scoop on it although less aggressive scoop angle than the 201. Jet Dynamics concave extended rideplate, I weigh about 165.

The rear mounting section of both grates extends forward past the curve of the shoe.

The JD grate hangs low in the rear, about 1/8 down past the ride plate due to the thickness of the grate mount.
The Worx 201 will sit flush if it has a few washers under the rear bolts, otherwise it sits recessed up from ride plate about 1/8.

My ski w/ the JD grate porpoises like mad... I thought it was the seemingly poor grate fitment that probably caused that. Haven't tried the Worx 201 yet.
My ski has tubbies and a hooker 9/15 w stubbie cone.

In the pics, is what it should look like? To me, the fit to the curve of the shoe is still far from what would look right. Pics say a thousand words so I've attached a few.

Is it as supposed to be a good fit - curve of grate to shoe curve? What am I missing here?

Thanks for any help or opinions!
Jeff

Thanks, just seems odd (to me at least) for the grate and shoe not to flow / integrate together better.

Feeling inside the rear where the grate and shoe meet (Worx 201 installed), the grate ramps up then flattens for about a half inch until it reaches curve of the shoe. This is normal?

What's ideal for the bottom surface where grate and plate meet? Flush using washers? Small step as it is? Personal preference/doesn't change much?

Riding goal is speed and handling chasing buoys, general freeride, light freestyle. I've got a stock plate I can D-cut I can throw on when I want to jump more. Have had the ski since Feb and have ridden a lot This season - still paying my tray time dues. Most riding is in salt w light chop. Buoys are typically in fresh calmer water.

I actually know Wade fairly well, he's an awesome guy and def knows his doo-doo :) He's taught me a ton and introduced me to the local crew - those guys can ride!

I try not to pepper the daylights out of him w all my questions and like to get community consensus opinions on some stuff to better learn on my own. Fifty heads better than one is what brings me to the X :)

you can play with washers on the worx and see what works best. Pat Bogart was telling me along time ago when he was still on SJ's that Chucky would spend alot of time on getting the grate dialed in either by shimming or removing material to get grate to sit shallower....... I have never fooled with all this, but cannot hurt to try.

As it sits w no washers its just above rideplate and meets up w the shoe although there's a bit of flat before the shoe curve begins (on shoe side of tunnel)

If I spaced it w washers to flush w the ride plate that would create a gap and small step from grate to shoe in the tunnel.

Gonna try it w no washers all sealed up w 4200 to start with and see what that does. Was gonna ride yesterday but it was cold and heavy chop.
I'll ask Wade about it too, have a feeling its gonna be like anything else - trial and adjust
