The back of my '99 sits low in the water. Could the foam have taken on water? Is there a good way to check? The engine compartment stays dry unless diving it. The previous owner installed foot holds and impeller. I can sit backwards in the tray of my SN sitting still but not on this one. Thank you for your advice.

Probably full of water. You can drill the back and add a plug to try and drain some water out. But, since it is winter you should dig it all out and replace it with the stuff from home depot that will not absorb water.

Thanks Quinc! Do you think it leaked at the footholds? Where else could it have leaked? Use the expanding spray foam in an aerosol can?

Probably around the footholds, or the bolts that hold the ride plate on. Use the foam that comes in sheets. I have details in the link in my sig. "Basic SN build".

Around the footholds, into the rideplate inserts, around the exhaust outlet, into the bondline, under the bulkhead, through the foam fill holes in the bilge, cooling line fittings, steering cable fitting.....any one or combination of any of these.

Drain plugs don't work so well without de-foam unless you have a few weeks to stand it on end & dry it out, which is a waste of time without getting it sealed up.
I don't believe it ever really dries out (OEM foam) once it's wet.

De-foam is a chore. If I were to do it, I'd go with pieces of polystyrene or Ping-Pong balls or anything that would not saturate and let the water flow out the drains.

Put the ski on a scale b4 digging into it.
