I have a 1999 Super Jet, 701 with a Riva Pipe. I installed the pipe the first time and within 2 minutes of riding it came loose at the cylinder. I reinstalled it, and it did the same thing. Then I installed it with all new nuts, bolts and washers. This time I used medium lock tite. I went out today and it ran great!! I stopped frequently to make sure everthing was still together and tight. At the end of the day it came apart again, this time it broke the studs off at the head tube. WTF!!!! When I installed it I made sure to tightened it down at the cylinder. Then I tightened it down at the head tube so that when I bolted it down at the head bracket it would not bind up. Any ideas??? Does anyone understand what I just said?? I feel like I am taking crazy pills!!! Please Help!!

What! What!
I believe that pipe also called for attachment to the head sort of like the stock pipe. Did you have it attached to the head, or only the cylinder at the manifold. If it wasn't mounted to the head also, that is probably your answer.

Otherwise, the engine could be out of tune causing excessive vibration. Motor mounts could be bad causing excess vibration. Drive line problem causing vibration.

Good Luck!

It is mounted to the head. It has new motor mounts. I rode this ski all last year with a different motor. I swapped the motor and pipe out this spring. It feels smooth when I ride it, no extra vibration, that I can tell.

If there is a gap between your pipe and the mounting bracket you need to shim it with washers. You can barely tell from the picture but that "may" be the cause of your problem.

Just ride
if you notice those two lord mountson the head are adjustable and you have to adjust them to the right height or they'll keep loosening up the bolts and eventually start blowing couplers.

ahh the riva red pipe
yup its main claim to fame is falling off yamahas
however bolt it to the manifold

then check the clearances between the mounting brackets and space them carefully
bolt them up and you should have no issues

You are bringing back nightmares of last spring I had the same issues. The pipe made good power when it would stay on but it wouldnt stay on for very long. Good luck I never tried the shim trick hopefully that will do it for ya.

Does anyone have the cooling line instructions and jetting specs for this pipe?? A friend of mine just bought one and needs them. Thanks. Mike
(I TOLD HIM NOT TO BUY IT)

I ran those for years back in the day, tighten the three bolts at bottom then check clearance between upper head mount at pipe and shim the space as metioned above, also chec the depth of the manifold bolts to be sure thier not bottoming out in the cylinder, use a medium strength high temp loc tite, check bolts once in awhile. should work unless there's something wrong with the pipe
