If you are deadlifting or doing power cleans after burpees you shouldn't be giving workout advice...

Why not? Because burpees cause your heart rate to be elevated and make you breathe hard? I didn't say find your one rep max immediately following 50 burpees. But doing three rounds of 15 burpees followed by ten deadlifts at 70% of your max isn't going to hurt you as long as you use proper form.

Have you tried this? I would not recommend that. Crossfit is gay anyways

Yes I have tried that. There were no giant mirrors hanging from every wall, and I wasn't being stared at by groups of men with huge arms and tiny legs, but I suppose you could call it gay.

That blog is hilarious for sure. There are some people that are way over the top, they live crossfit, and crossfit has taken over their brain. Like I said you have to be smart about it.

I use it as a tool to prepare for anything from 36 hour endurance races, to jet skiing, to a simple 5k. It's nice when you get a last minute phone call to go run a mud race with your buddy and you know you're already prepared. I don't ever want to be a professional workouter, if that's even a word. I just want to be able to do anything I want with as little preparation needed as possible. As a result I am on my ski about twice as much as people I ride with. They rest, I ride. This is good because I need the practice!

Ya I work legs twice a week. They are my favorite. I am going to compete in Mr. Indiana this year. So its not like I don't work my whole body. One flaw anywhere will really show when youre up on stage.

Not to be disrespectful, but this made me literally laugh out loud. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this topic because we have completely different purposes for maintaining fitness.

The OP asked for fitness ideas to help with riding, not advice on how to look good on stage. If he's out thrashing on his ski and his heart rate gets elevated should he float around for a few minutes before pulling himself back up on the ski for more? If you train to exhaustion it makes exhaustion harder to reach, and also more comfortable when you get there.

Ya I know we have totally different goals. I was just busting balls, stirring the pot if you call it so. Doing crossfit requires the person to be a master of there body and know how to execute every movement with perfection so they don't kill themselves on day one. I think the OP should just hit the weight room for a year learn everything he can and eat as many carbs and as much protein as he can stomach at every meal. If you don't eat you won't get big.

I'm not talking about McDonald's carbs and protein I'm talking red meat, chicken, fish, rice, whole grain para and breads. Also drink enough water to drown an elephant since damn near all your muscles are water.

So, long story short, riding the SJ is a F-ing workout when i first started. Now that im facing the offseason, im looking at gym time, healthy eating, and lots of gains. I started pushing myself the end of September, and am feeling awesome. protein shake or bar daily, loading myself with vitamins, and im up early most mornings for a workout, pull ups, pushups, abs, back, then shower and out the door. Plans are to bulk up, gain core strength which i need for riding, and looking better doesn't hurt. I know the girlfriend isnt minding this ;).

Right now im tall and light. i have maybe 5% body fat, am 6'9", and weight 185. Im looking for that 200 mark, which for my height seems good. I have very high metabolism, so weight gain is a challenge. since riding, ive noticed my back pains are gone, i dont get headaches, and my body feels wonderful! i do stretch daily as well which by itself made a very large difference and gave me lots more energy without feeling tired mid day.

any tips for riding exercises besides riding? im lost for what i should train specifically.

Why the :):):) would you want to do 50 burpees before deadlifting? This is the ridiculously dumb crap that makes xfit look bad. Something as simple as doing the burpees after deadlifts would not only make you stronger but it would significantly lessen your chance of injury...

Doing a show is all about diet and lifting heavy ass weight with a goal. Which is what xfit significantly lacks. (lifting heavy weight and having a goal)

As far as tiny legs go have you noticed that all the xfit guys wear board shorts? If you can do a squat in board shorts without tearing them, you have tiny legs... I will say the best thing about xfit is you wont get board and the woman. The majority of them have hot bodies. :)

You should re-read what I wrote. Your first paragraph is not in any way quoting what I said.

"Lifting heavy ass weight" is most certainly a huge part of crossfit. We have Olympic lifts on the schedule at least three times a week. Also one of the main benefits of crossfit is measurable benchmark workouts that are performed by people all over the world. I'm not sure you have a grasp on what crossfit actually is, and I'm quickly getting bored of this.

I used to do crossfit and worked out with people who place in the xfit games every year so I have a pretty good idea of what it is.

i'm with joker and quinc on this since i'm a muscle head. then again, a ski with a skeleton taped to the bars (crossfit guy) is going to do more tricks and go higher than the same ski with a gorilla jumping up and down on it. if i didnt have a big slab of meat covering up my bones, there would be more than a few broken ones from the ski hitting me, instead of just a huge bruise or cut in half muscle. big muscles dont let you have as much endurance as smaller muscles, but i like being able to throw the ski around and pretend i'm kicking its ass and i like being able to pick a ski up and toss it in the bed of the truck without help.

Can't argue with that. If I could gain weight I would. My metabolism won't allow it no matter what I eat. I can eat a huge meal at midnight and wake up starving at 6 am. Vitamins, protein, eating like crazy, even animal pak doesn't add weight on me. Lol

Animal packs arnt for gaining weight lol. If you can eat a 5000 calorie clean diet with ~750 carbs and double your body weight in grams of protein coupled with a gallon to 2 gallons of water a day you gain weight. Also you have to work out 5-6 days a week for at least an hour a day. If you halfass it you will have a halfass body
