Ride pants/gear

What kind of riding pants do you use?
I am looking for something
I see Slippery makes them (switch pants), has anyone used them?
I usually wear the wetsuite John, but in the heat out here in AZ not really an option during the hot summer.
does anyone else making riding pants like that?
i like the ability to unzipper the lower legs off too
only problem with Slippery is that they are a size 38 as max size. looking for something a little larger and roomier (aka to stuff my fat a$$ and tree trunk legs into)
I can't ride with just shorts as:
1- i'm irish and i BURN, the sun doesn't like me
2- my knees and legs get marked up pretty bad, , i do use neoprene knee braces too. my lower legs get massively bruised when i am doing subs and what not
3- i like having the extra protection on

I have even thought about using MotoX pants, but i think they will be to "heavy" especially when wet.

I tried emailing slippery to see if they make them larger, but have not had a response back yet.

I bought MX pants, they were adjustable to way bigger than 38.

my problems with them:
I did have to cut out the inner liner (not a big deal)
they were to baggy in the legs and make swimming in currents to dificult
the snap eventually corroded from salt water.

so, look for properly sized mx pants with no snaps. :)

The original switch pants had a neoprene liner which got way too heavy when wet but the new ones don't have it. They are more like an MX pant, with the added feature of the legs unzipping.
I like mine.

I ride in Shift MX pants, no liner and zip into shorts, same design, pretty much the same pants with a little more reinforcement and look way better. I think Slippery is actually owned by Shift but not sure.

Just plain me....
I have a pair of Thor MX pants - absolutely love them. They are not too bulky or heavy. They zip off at the knees. Great alternative when a wetsuit is too much but shorts aren't enough.

One thing to look for though when buying MX pants. There are variations even within brands. Some are cut differently to accommodate various riding styles whether it be freestyle, MX or even ATV riding. I found out the hard way when I purchased a pair for someone & they ended up being way too long & baggy thru the legs, even though the waist was great. They ended up being some sort of freestyle design. Just food for thought. And I know other brands make bigger sizes than 38s - just check around.

where do you get these shift pants from?

I'll take a look at the hockey pants in person, if i can find them around this area

I have a pair of Fly racing MX pants (was their higher end) and i needed to wear a size 42, and they still were to short, although baggy around the waist.
Fly tends to run REALLY small in size. I wear a Fly 3XL jersey and it fits me like a XL would

also good pint about the snap rusting, although most of the riding here will be in fresh water.

I got mine from Bobs Cycle, if you have a MX shop around you its best to try them on but I found the Shift pants fit large, they where big in the waist, baggy and long (I am 6'3" and most other pants including slippery where like capri pants on me). I also prefer the freestyle or freeride MX pants as they are meant to go over the boot and dont have the dorky tight leg.

Here you go: http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm?viewfrom=26&catid=16581&step=2 I have the '08 Recon pants in grey.

thanks for that link..
what size fit you? i have about a 36-38 length legs (sometimes 40-42 depending on make)
did the legs have like a cuffling to stay tight? i don't want them rising from the water flusing them
i also like that they are unzippable at the knees, they look like the Slippery switch pants

i do have alot of MotoX/off road stores here, so i'll stop by and see what they have.

I wear a size 34-36 waist, bought these in 36 and they where a bit large but they have nice velcro straps to tighten them up. I have about a 36" inseam and these fit nice and long (almost too long, sometimes they slip under the heal of my shoe) There is no cuff inside to keep them tight but I had no problem with them rising. Plus heavy duty zippers, zipper pockets for holding chit while riding and reinforced cuffs at the bottom are nice features. And you can usually find them cheaper than slippery pants, there are more styles to choose from and they look way better!

"Thor" is the answer. They are also the ones making the Slippery Switch gear, Slippery just markets it, it's been covered many times before, just search for "Thor".
Hope that helps.
