Custom/Hybrid Rickter XFS cavitation issues

Yeah I would say it's in the pump area. I have seen several Rickter have this issue which is caused by the angle of the pump shoe mounting area. A long story short, it seems to differ slightly to that of oem. When you fit up the pump should and install the pump, there is a small area at the top of the pump seal (closest to top of pump tunnel) that either has a gap, or does not pull up tight enough. I'm not saying it is your issue, but when you install the pump, get a large philips heads screw driver and put it through the rear pump mounting ear and then through into the mounting hole. Use this to lever the pump forward to put pressure on the seal and install the front bolt on the same side. If you use a nice big screwdriver, you don't damage the inserts, and you get the pump pushed in as tight as possible. It's worth noting that this isn't as much of an issue when using an oem pump duct.

It's something else to check anyway...

you are having air cavatation somewhere, 12/17 is the prop you should be running, you are ok there, oem sj to a XFS is close weight, I dont think 20lbs will make you have the cavatation problem, you need pull out the pump seal and re install it, and take your time on it, is the most important thing on your drive train

All good info, thank you guys. Need to do this this weekend and test. I am usually pretty exact at doing things but maybe I overlooked something in the rush of happiness after getting the boat...

The other rickter (845cc) is grounded. It seems that the coupler fell out and it was "chop sueied" by the bllet drive coupler. I think my buddy did not torque the motor mounts strong enough and it moved forward... oh well, new coupler time for him and pump sealing as well.
