Rickter Adjust Footholds on SJ

Well here is another Winterproject any input and ideas appreciated !

The Plan is

" Rickter Adjustable footholds for the wife's RN SJ ....."

- Quick cut out and trial and error on an old 550 Hull to get the feeling of any upcoming problems.
- Then inside of RN Hull will have to be enforced and I am thinking another backing plate ( courtesy of Jet Ski Innovations ) fiberglassed in..or several layers of fiberglass ??
- Then obviously the rest fiberglassed almost like an open box type style

Throw me any ideas and suggestions before I start cutting into an 07 SJ....

Have you tried these? Are they better than other footholds. Are they easier to install?

Cut into the hull with first adjustments. I noticed the important part is to cut very straight espcially the foam, hence I will have to fiberglass a box.

Backing plate will be out of aluminum and will be glassed in the sidewalls. Courtesy of jet ski innovations I will show pictures..shortly

I would cut it forward more and pour some foam to make a sloping transition from the dash area into the foothold area then glass it. the "box" looks ugly.

my 2cents

I was thinking about that too , leaning towards a 45 degree angle fading to the front...but need backing plate first to know 100% how far the hold will stick into the tray.

any updates?? is the aluminum backing plate custom made from jet ski innovations or is it something you can buy?

Also where can you buy these foot holds? Are they even available yet?

Update

Backingplates from http://www.ski-innovations.com/

These are 6061 AC plates 13*7 which will have to be grinded down in the corners a little to sit flush with the inside of the side tray. Obviously the other side might need more adjustments due to the exhaust pipe sticking out...we will see when I get there.

I have also angled the front box part 45 degrees to eliminate the "box" part a little more ( THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENTS !! LOOKS MUCH BETTER )

to answer questions
-Footholds are not avaliable and not being sold seperatly at this point as far as I know.
-These is a complete custom project I am as much in the dark as anyone else here ...as always ideas welcome.

Next steps will be to attach the Ac backingplate to the hull side and fiberglass 24OZ the complete box..

this would be a great time to widen the rear of the tray. just cut the rails out in the back and use alittle foam to shape it and glass over it. loose a few pounds and get a wide tray.

2 more cents for ya

sorry those 2 cents will have to go in another project !!, but idea would be to make the sides complete adjustable from front to back ( basically wider tray ) and then you could even have your footholds no paralell...all the in front or back or mabey even 2 on ones side...:smashfreakB:

i was just talkin about cutting the very back of the rail ; the part that if you were standing behind the ski it would be the only part of the ral in the way when mounting the ski. ya know? i am not good at the description game!

oh , I am actualy still not finished cutting out the back, on the original it appears that the end of the foothold actualy overlaps the back edge and stand out, still not sure if I want to go that way...

Update

Both Boxes finished and glassed, I had to turn the ski upside down for the ceeiling parts.
Also wouls strongly recommend to carve out a little piece of the tow part of the foothols to accomodate the exhaust pipe.

Final paperwork for exact hydroturf cuts, we will leave the oem black rubber sides on top the box starts immediatly underneath.

Update Turf In & Holes

I put the turf on and also drilled the holes for the plates. I had to grind down a little of the tray plastic panel to make it fit again ( wanted to leave it OEM ) and also reused the clean oem hydroturf for inner box and box ceiiling.
The exhaust pipe padding was cut and only turf layed there...back end tray is padded too

Almost completed I ordered the screws and prolocks fins for outside tray, and also weather stripp to glue back on the rubber tray rails and the deal is done.
