Blaster Renthal bar users....read this

So all blaster and x2 guys running renthals here is a good example of why not too. This happend while riding on the river with no surf and major chop. When I contacted renthal inc. warranty dept. with pictures in hand, they said that I broke them in a vise and refuse to replace them. I'm glad I have pro tapers on my dirt bike because this was scary, but would have been a lot worse on dirt. After numerous emails and phone calls I was told to stop trying to receive a replacement. They said that they have many complaints about bars breaking on dirt bikes and recommend that I replace the ski with new bars every ride. Change your renthals, it may save your life.

thats really weird. i think it was a fluke though, i would still feel comfortable using renthals. renthals have been around for years and are known for being great bars. Lots of pro motocross rider use them as well as my self and have never seen or heard of this happening. Where did you buy them? if it was on ebay maybe they are fake?

get fat bars. I have broken or bent countless sets of 7/8 bars. You are muscling a 350+ pound machine around. Aluminum bars are weak and will break.

This happens with all sorts of bars, stock and aftermarket, all the time. This is not exclusive to Renthal.

The side loads on skis are much stronger than that on a bike or ATV. On a bike you ate supporting your weight using your knees against the seat/tank. On a ski all of your weight/leverage is on the bars.

I think what he is getting at is that Rehthal has a sucky warranty policy and for bars to break when it is not a crash they should replace them.
They don't know what he did with them. Probably bought them a while ago. I worked in a dealership, if you get someone to take bars back and they're more than one ride old, go get yourself a lotto ticket. Race bikes have 0 warranty off the showroom floor, this includes rental bars that come factory.
Edit : no offense to the OP, but look at it from a dealers shoes. And the purpose of your bars. Are those pit bike bars too?

I ran some generic (Oneal bars) bars on my X2. They were steel. On my wife's old Blaster 2 I ran UMI bars. Rode it plenty in the surf. Never and issue and put plenty of load on them.

I dont blame Renthal for not replacing them, but what kind of company tells you to replace their product after every ride? Who would want to buy a set of bars that are good for one ride? I understand if you're Ryan Villapoto, but not the average guy. Thats a horrible products if thats the case.

I'm a long time motocross racer and the only bars I've ever seen break were pro-tapers. That's probably because pro-tapers are all I ever ran. I never cared much for Renthal bars. The pro tapers that broke was due to a crash and was expected. To have bars break like that and not even have them hit the ground is odd. Pretty crappy of Renthal to not take your word and replace them - another reason I don't and won't run them.
