removing coupler on the crank?

i need to replace the seal closest to the coupler(crank coupler that is) and i don't know how to get it off with the coupler in the way. I assume you have to pull the coupler but i don't know how. I bought the ski used and am giving the engine a look over and noticed half the seal was popped out of the case and was damaged.

Yes you have to split the case but you have to remove the coupler first. The easiest way is to pull the engine, remove the coupler, turn it upside down, and remove the bottom half of the case. Then you can just lift the crank up slightly to put the seals in. Might as well do the front seal while you're in there...

When removing the coupler, put a rope in the spark plug hole to jam the piston, and then just put a board or wrench through the coupler and unscrew it.

do you turn the coupler to the left to loosen or is it reverse threaded?
