Remove Bendix with flywheel in place?

Thanks much. I thought if you wiggled it enough it might come outta there or if you lined up the gears on the Bendix it would slide into the flywheel teeth and be out enough to fall out to the side.

Be careful. Don't drive the bolts into the flywheel too far when removing it. You'll be buying a new stator if you do. That's an expensive mistake that is very easy to make.

Also, use a socket (12mm I think) on the end of the puller bolt. It will keep you from driving the puller bolt into the crankshaft end and boogering it up.

Thanks for the tips. I thought I would have to because I remember trying to put it in when the flywheel was already on and I took the flywheel back off again. Maybe I'll try that cutting/rewelding of the case, or maybe I'll just JB weld the case back together! Nice! Those Bendix' are flippin expensive!

I did that on a kaw750 engine once.

got it all together, flywheel tightened down, then realized I had forgotten the bendix.

didnt have the tool, so I had to toss the entire engine in my hoopty, drive across town and let a guy at eh dealership take it off, nicely, he did it for FREE.

but I still felt like a dumbazz.
