I'm in the midst of my winter project, reinforcing just the engine compartment of my RN SJ. I've basically found all what I need from searching PWCT and whatnot but wanted to follow up on a couple of things I'm still unclear on or more or less nervous about since this will be my first time working with any of this.
I have the rails ground down and need to start preppin' the hull for the next steps. I was going to use a orbital sander to rough everything up and then go over by hand to get the smaller areas. What grit paper is good to use, 400? Clean-up would be vacuuming, wet-wiping the rest of the dust, then acetone wipe down. Is anything else crucial needed?
I'm pretty square on what I need for strengthening materials, just unsure on how much epoxy resin (105) & slow hardener (206) I will need..... I plan on using 17oz Biax to do 1 layer on the sides and up the nose and 3 under the hand pole since that area is small and 1 on the firewall for limiting rope mount strength. How much would you guys say is needed for this and to use with bond rail filler? And should I do 2 layers of biax on the sides?
Can Microlight (410) be used instead of the sillica?
Thanks,
