Reinforcing under pole bracket area

I've got some slight surface cracking going on where my pole bracket is mounted to my top deck.

I was thinking that just making a nice sturdy backing plate for reinforcement might do the trick instead of glassing the area.

Any opinions on this?

Best is to fill the nose pockets with 2 or 4 lb. foam, sand smooth to the contour of the hull, then wrap with some good bi-axial like 1706that is 6-7" wide from bond line to bond line. Along with reinforcing the hull sides, mine has taken a beating and been great.

Thats what I did, that backing plate won't fit in there now, but I think the glass is plenty strong.

the backing plate would work well for someone who didn't do or doesn't want to do the glasswork.
