Reinforcing a stock roundnose pole

I have a stock roundnose pole laying around, thought of shortening it and reinforcing it for a possible ski or friend. I was just curious, where do you reinforce them? I cant see reinforcing them at the base bcause you still need to slip the bottom piece to the pole on, and it seems extra glass would make it too thick to fit. Do you reinforce above where the bracket goes? I also thought of laying glass inside the pole as the reinforcement spot.

I shortened mine when it broke off and then bolted it together and have really abused it with no problems. I had a stainless steel ring built it for the bottom bracket becasue I split it down the front when it broke.

If I would have kept my stock pole this is what I would have done. I would probably use one heavy layer of Biaxel 12" long 6"s over the aluminum collar and 6"s over fiberglass pole itself. Wrap the glass all the way around the pole. Make sure to use epoxy resin. Down the road you may have to reinforce parts of the pole if they get fractures/spider cracks from heavy abuse.

I got my pole from Slutty and it has been Sluttyfied on both top and bottom where the fiberglass meets the aluminum.
It was wrapped with about a 6" strip of carbon and tested by Slut him self.
This one ain't breaking.

Those carbon sleeves that Geek is using for exhaust tubes look like they would be good for reinforcing the pole. I don't know if they make them big enough though.

the stock pole is 17.5 inches around thats equivelent to 5.75" diameter. The biggest aerosleeve would would cover that. Pricy though I bet it would look real good though with no seems anywhere.

I used carbon. 3 layers tapered from the bottom over the aluminum, 2 layers at the top, and one long piece over the whole thing. Vaccum bagged with epoxy resin. :cheer:

ive broke mine i think at least 4 times now -always at bottom (yeah i know get a new one- but im cheap like that) just keep riviting it back together and welding the lower cap back together- ive never broke it while using a limiting strap only without- runaway your reinforcement is the show for sure

Ive never broken the fiberglass part. Always the aluminum. two bottom pieces and one top.

Thanks! I also have broken the metal at the bottom. That is why the carbon/fiberglass reinforcement needs to go all the way down.

bringing this back to the top, any more good ideas anyone can add? I am working on one now. Runnaway, has the epoxy held to the aluminum well (no delaminating?) Did you completely defoam the inside?

Single layer 8.5oz twill on pole, over the base as well and up top. Seems really strong, yet still light.
