I did a search but couldnt really find what I'm looking for.

What all will I be needing for the following and how much. Looking to reinforce my ski with some nice pretty carbon.

Sides
Bottom
Under Bracket
Nose Lip
Inside Nose
Bulkhead

I do not plan to do any refoaming or anything like that. Just kinda trying to figure out what all I need and how much of it.

Matakana Menace
When I did my RN, I filled in the bondline and under the hood seal area with resin/milled fibers, and used approx the following:

3 yards 1208 biax
2 yards 10.5 carbon fiber
1 gallong epoxy resin
1 bucket milled fibers

2 cases beer:biggthumpup:

Get a little foam to shape undet the nose area so you can reinforce easier.

Good luck.

So you're not going to reinforce the sides in the back half of the ski? isn't that where most of them crack? Carbon is EXPENSIVE. The texalium is only about $20 per yard and looks pretty good. Might want to give that a look.

I'm not gonna yank foam out of my ski in March. I'll lay glass ont he outside or get a dawson deflector or something.

hey Jessie, shouldnt you be getting your jeep fixed???

Sponsorship money has covered more then half of my build this year including my motor. I'm also putting hella $ in the bank and I think I will have enough in a couple of weeks to pay in full. Besides Jeep is on a 0% card so I can pay it off in full or if a problem comes up, I'm covered for a year with a minimum payment of $10 and no interest:biggrin:

For someone who is a mod in the TechFAQ....

Reinforcement SuperJet technique <- It is all there.

Again.......I searched and did not come up with what I needed, hit every link before making this thread. 90% of those were for reinforcing witih glass and/or how to reinforce. I understand how too. I'm looking for SUPPLIES.

How much carbon would I need?
How much foam would I need?
How much resin would I need?
How much thickening agent will I need?

So...for someone who makes threads in FAQ........Awww hell nevermind

From post 6 in above link:
..."On my wifes (aka my backup ski), I am doing the top deck with 17oz biax, then filling the bond line, then covering the whole side with another layer of biax and possibly a layer of mat to give me something easy to sand smoothish. Three layers biax under handlepole mount, one layer behind bulkhead, one layer in tray, one layer inside hood, and one layer c/f in bottom of engine compartment. I'm thinking 1.5gal w/med hardner and 3yd biax."
beachjunkey

Also...

To better assist you I will provide you the dimensions of the bilge:

Sides:
56" long - Nose to dash
16" tall at the tallest point

Bottom:
21.5" wide x 52" long

Nose:
18" x 20"

Firewall/Dash:
22x17

All measurements are approximate and do not forget to add additional material for waste.
That should help with determining the amount of glass/carbon.

The supplies were listed in those threads, in addition to searching you must read.

You did not originally ask for foam, but it is there in a different thread.
However, 1 pint of 3 or 4 pound will be more than enough.

True, but I'm unsure of the diffrence in Biax verus carbon or something else. Thicker material soaking up more resin.

Also, that is my only beef with the FAQ department....It's got tons of info but for everytime you go to look for something you need, you have to lok through 34865326532 pages in 37983753 threads. I believe we should write more articles for the FAQ....1 post answering the question in simple format with the current links as refrence and discussion info.

I totally agree man. I would like to see the tech faq a lot more direct and to the point.

I'll take volunteers. Jessie, you are an FAQ mod and I do believe that was the basis for your request to be one.

It helps eliminate the 8766786578765776568875467986443 different search results you get.

Same boat. I stripped the bilge of everything and took measurements to determine quantities needed. The last post I referenced has everything needed to get the job done.

From my readings, Beachjunky has used, ordered, the most resin @ 1.5 gallons. You should not need that much. There is a 1:1 ratio listed in that topic. So if you have 9oz of glass, you need 9 oz of resin.

Glass < Biaxial < carbon < carbon/kevlar (not definitive)

Waterfreak recommends 3K 2x2 twill CF.
