Registration/sales tax question on a new rickter

Does anyone know how one goes about registering a new rickter? I'm guessing there's no serial tag with which to go by?

What about sales tax? Would it make sense to have the builder send you a bill of sale for the hull and register that and then finish the build? Never done this before and wondering how it works for what is essentially a home built ski.

I was able to register mine as a home built and they issued me a HIN. I didn’t have to pay any sales tax or extra fees. I’m in MN. Your state may vary.

In MT I had to have mine inspected by fish and game and they assigned a HIN and then inspect it again after I had tags made and permanently attached to the Hull. Both of mine are registered as Rickters and not homebuilt. Like KMN said your state will vary.

I'm in Michigan as well. I've always registered my a/m hulls as home built. Ask them for form TR-204. I've used the invoice for the hulls and just changed the dollar amount so you don't have to pay taxes on the full amount. We pay enough taxes as it is. Usually pretty painless process. I just put on there I bought the hull and had all the parts to complete the build. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message

Will do! I probably won’t be spending any money until springtime anyways since the season is pretty much done.
