Now that I finally have the title....
Took a new Yamaha certificate of origin for a 2009 Superjet to DMV and forgot that they are banned from CA. Supervisor was confused. Luckily, boats are not tightly regulated (like cars or dirt bikes) in CA. It didn't need a visual inspection. The lady helping me mentioned there were a few exemptions. Over 500 Hp was one (yeah thats it...my ski kicks serious ass and how the h#ll would she know) but I didn't go that route...she asked if it was a runabout. I said yeah aren't all jetskis/ waverunners? Boom got my stickers and temp registration (who hoo). Then she said the exemption will trigger an audit (darn it). But then I remembered our poor a$$ state needs all the cash it can get so why decline revenue from a small watercraft registration & title. .... the new title came in the mail a week later.

People at the DMV are terrible here in San Diego. When I took my skis from Colorado there they somehow managed to screw up the VINs on both skis and a trailer. Also, they wouldn't give me PTI plates on the trailer because it was a "carriage." I'm quite certain all boat trailers I've seen around are PTI.

oh forgot to mention they did screw up the hin # originally. They put JP-YAM######. The Yamaha certificate of origin had those two letters "JP" just in front of the HIN so the clerk typed them in. I had to drive back there same day before they processed and forwarded to Sacramento. phew.
I swear if you are a good salesman you can register anything with those guys. I'm gonna get a new YZ street legal next time :)

its all about slight of hand...or, having a connection at the dmv!

sometimes too, if you just strike up a conversation and be friendly (or flirt if need be)..just get them talking, then they will just go into automatic mode and hand you back the paperwork..
