Other Reeds not closed?

I was looking over my engine while it is apart and noticed that the reed pedals (on the lower side when mounted) dont fully close by themselves. If you hold them at the right angle you can see a slight gap, probably less than 1mm. They are carbon pedal and about 2 seasons old. Willl they close by themselves when its running or should I replace them?

Thanks for looking that up!! I'll bring home my caliper and check it. Its not open much but might be a bit more than .2mm. It wasnt causing any issues that I know of, I found most of my other issues were related to carb shafts being out of adjustment from each other.

i don't know it all, but if it starts ok i think you should be ok. I have had chipped reeds cause hard starting conditions where you gotta crank & crank & crank it to get it to fire and i suppose an excess gap is doing the same thing.

If there is any gap then i'd replace them. Worn reeds may affect performance because it's a "reed valve" it opens and closes during engine running.. If it's not closing its not doing its job.

Carbon tech I believe. I flipped them over and they sit about the same so I put them back how they were. Their in Stock cages with opened up stock stuffers. I'm just going to try them and replace if needed.

they will probably work, but the dealio is, you could be losing 1/4 to 1/2 of a power stroke of fuel charge before the power stroke's pressure in the case closes the reed. If you take off your flame arrestors and run it on the trailer pinned you will be able to see if its throwing fuel out the throat or not.

a kid last weekend was running his POS RN and was complainin' about shatty power. reeds were blown throwing fuel out the throats.

I never really thought about it before but now that you mention it I have noticed that if I snap the throttle from idle it will shoot a small amount of fuel up. It's just for a split second and quickly socks it back down. I noticed it a few seasons back and just figured it was normal with the arrestors off. Looks like I might be buying a set of v force's after all.
