650/X-2 Reed Stuffers in Kawi 650?

I asked this question last year on PWCToday and nobody seemed to have a good answer.
It seems that the Kawi 650 is the only motor that didnt come with reed stuffers from the factory. Why was this? 550sx had stuffers, i would assume that the 650 should have them as well.

Anyways.. do they really help at all?
I have a 650 motor in my JS550. I have a PJS intake manifold with SBN44 and vortex flame arrestor, lightweight flywheel, PJS head, Coffmans exhaust. With a Solas 19 degree prop, Ocean Pro nozzle, and Jet Dynamics toploader in a 550 pump. The final bolt on mod looks like a reed stuffer to me. Are they worth the money? I want bottom end hit.

im not sure what they cost. even if they were free would they be worth using? By looking at them, all it seems to do is extend the intake manifold runners another inch, so that they blast right into the center of the reeds.

Did anyone notice a power increase after putting some in?

The 650 has such small reed cages that I doubt you would see a difference, whereas on the 550,750,800 the reeds are much bigger and you will see some increased bottom end with the stuffers installed.

What is their purpose? Just forcing air through the reed instead of swirling around in front of the reed? It doesnt seem like they would do much of anything, since the air still needs to travel throughout the crankcase once it passes through the reed.

They increase intake velocity and carb signal. :thinkerg:

About to put a set on my 650 built in the 750 cases, I will let you know what difference it makes.

news on this? i'm considering some. i feel like it's not even worth my time to unbolt the manifold and put them in, even with free ones, haha.

IMO they are worth it. There is a reason the factory put them in the big pins.Agree with wfo on the small size of the reeds on the 650. I am not a change one part and ride kinda guy, if I pull a ski down there are major changes done. So I cant say if just the stuffers by themselves make a difference.

ill be putting a set on for next season. But my comment is pretty much useless cause i wont be able to tell you until next summer. And i will have bolted on many more parts as well. Ill pretend all the power increase was because of the stuffers though.

I have a set sitting around.... I tryed to put then but they required longer studs and i didnt feel like putting longer studs in the block.... so now they are sitting in the parts box lol

i have asked some old school motor builders about these he says its just one of those things that adds 1/4-1 hp here or there. not worth taking stuff apart just to put them in but if you have some and happen to have to take your Mani off.
