Other rebuilding a 98 gp1200..need advice

Figured out my wife's ski needs a top end done on it, I figure I'm just goin to buy stocks piston top end kit, Im also goin to rebuild the carbs while I'm at it, an take out the oil pump to go premix, my question is after rebuilding topend an carbs is there anything I need to worry about as far as popoff or jetting etc...? Also doin a oil block off to go to premix how will that effect the ski and what mixture should I run...thanks

Ask this same question on greenhulk or similar sitdown site and you will be flooded with useful infomation. My mate has one of these which he says is for his mrs but strange hes the only one that uses it. He got heaps of info and says its way faster now

You shouldn't need to change the jets for a simple carb rebuild and new pistons, however you will probably need to move the adjustment screws to get it right again. Changing to premix or putting new pistons (if you have the cylinder bored larger) may require new jets. It's a minor change that will unlikely need rejetting but just becareful and test the ski before you just start running it hard because there is the potential for a need to rejet.

Yes. Failed oil pumps wipe out the motor pretty quick. Those systems will fail and it's 14 years old. I'm going to change mine to premix but the people who had it before me broke a jet head. Not sure i can change them. Changing to premix will need some tuning and probably jet changes. The 1200 motor isn't cheap to fix. It's not uncommon to have damage on triples more than just new pistons and rings. I have a 1200 at my house with broken jugs and cracked cases. Could have been a lean issue but regardless this motor is scrap.
