Rear exhaust

I recently bought a rear exhaust from 701 Industries. I have never installed one, but I'm informed a 701 rear exhaust are longer so reconnecting to exhaust hose is easier. Not to hijack your thread but does a rear exhaust like 701 raise the outlet partially above water line. Should add I'm also installing transom plate.

I have the 701 rear exhaust. Sounds great, looks fantastic and easy to install. I also have the 701 transom plate, Surf plugs and Surf wedge to finish out the rear. The transom plate actually acts like a locator for the exhaust hole cut. Strongly recommend the 701 exhaust, but works best as a complete rear setup.

The length of the Rear exhaust makes it easy to install. One it is placed in the right location, it actually runs straight in line with the long exhaust hose, so once you remove the factory exhaust exit from the pump tunnel, you cut a section from the hose and it slides straight on to the 701 exhaust. The 701 exhaust comes with a block off plate for the pump tunnel exit, but it comes with self tapping screws and if you would rather, it comes with 3 nuts that can be used with the factory bolts that hold the stock outlet in place. By using these nuts and the factory bolts, you do not have to remove the pump to run the self tappers in.

I noticed the outlet is higher so does this make it louder? Or just change the tone? I noticed this after ordering and concerned about making ski noticeably louder. I can't have a loud two stroke on the lake I ride, wouldn't make residents very happy.

It is mostly a tone change. The pic of mine in the water is up on the beach, so it is sitting out of the water a little higher. It certainly keeps the pump a lot cleaner.

The 701 Industries parts do cost a bit on shipping, but if you get a big order together and have it shipped at once it tends to help.

As far as benefits, there are a couple perceived benefits. 1) the exhaust gases have a more direct path to exit, however this will also depend on the rest of the routing of the exhaust in the hull. The 701 Exhaust creates a straight shot out once the hose goes through the bulkhead. 2) There are some theories that I have seen out there that moving the exhaust from the pump tunnel will help reduce pump cavitation. I guess the idea is that the exhaust gases around the pump induce the possibility of cavitation. I can see the thought process behind this theory, however I just can't work it out in my head to say it does or does not work.

I was about to order a 701 rear exhaust but after I went to check out and seen $43 just for shipping I'd like to find a company in the states now
Its a fact that shipping from Aus will cost. But when you actually do your sums on the exhaust it works out not to bad. The rear exhaust kit is $119 aud which with the currency rate brings it down to $110.00 Then add your shipping at $43.00 aud which is then converted to $40.00 you are now going to get shipped to your door the kit for $150.00 US. Other companies sell for the same but you still have to get it shipped. So really freight isn't a factor. Its really just a matter of choice.
