I have both a Rad 5mm stroker crank and also a Rad charging flywheel. My question is does anyone know why they went out of business? There products look to be top notch.
My understanding is that Rad got hit real hard when IJSBA eliminated the Mod class and went to a Superstock format that allowed only stock cranks. This immediately hurt Rad's new crank sales as well as their rebuild service. IJSBA's reasoning for eliminating the Mod Class was that it would make racing "more affordable".
. . . . . . . which in turn led to the development of really high revving Superstock motors with a severely decreased service life that caused the need for more frequent rebuilds which increased the cost to racers . . . . which was what they were trying to avoid to begin with wasn't it ?!
Oh, nevermind . . . . . that's a whole other story . . . . . .
BTW: If anyone has a junk 6mm RAD Yamaha crank they want to sell for parts I need a Flywheel end throw/journal for a small pin crank. This is the one that uses stock Yamaha rods.
Thanks . . . .
I heard he is selling computers now........... yes, the rule change killed his business, he tried to keep it afloat for many years after, but finally shut down about 2 years ago.
