Racing/FreeStyle Set-Up

Other then the impeller and the intake grate is there much diffrence between the two set ups?
im sure i would have to change the set up on the b-pipe as well
the reason im asking is i have two groups i ride with half race and half freestyle...
also i have yet to actually change my impeller how much of a pain is it to switch back and forth?

On race skis, the pole is typically longer than on Freestyle boats.
Race skis often have some weight added to the front of the boat.
Race skis do not have footholds.
Race skis have longer ride plates.
Race skis like hull extensions (bad thing for freestyle)

I think you can use a freestyle motor for racing and vice versa (with some compromise, and assuming someone who knows what they're doing built the motor), but the handling on a purpose built Freestyle boat might be a bad thing around the buoys

they have asked me many time to come out and race with them but i keep telling them they will kill me with the set-up ill have come summer

Im running a 9/15 Hooker should i at least put the stocker back in...your probally right, if i like it ill just steal there skis..but they are all Kawi Krap!

Keep your boat set up for freestyle. You'll have more fun in the ocean than around a buoys, but you can still ride the buoys every now and then. Unless you are serious about racing, leave it be and enjoy!

...one more thing... if you don't have tubbies, get em! They will work in both conditions. Then just change to a long ride plate on the course and a d-cut in the surf.

I won't have a SJ without Tubbies, and I ride mainly flatwater.

Tubbies help with everything! Handling, nose buoyancy, tracking in corners. They are usually fiberglass and foam, so not heavy at all.

To your earlier point, according to most, the hooker gives a ton of low end at the expense of a little bit of top speed. It also is built to help the pump stay hooked up ('hooker'), which is what you want in rough race courses. Unless you're drag racing, you're probably better with the hooker over your stock impeller.

If you're purely into flatwater freestyle, then save your money and don't get tubbies. They don't buy you anything for flatwater freestyle.

I do think they make riding a SJ more enjoyable. The nose is more buyant, the ski leans much easier, and is more fun to ride.
