I've had a shady situation even WITH a lanyard.
Sometime last winter we were riding in 35ish degree water and 20ish degree air temps.
After a while, the throttle would freeze open.
The only way to get back to the ramp without going WFO the whole time was to lay in the tray, start the engine for 1 or 2 seconds, then kill it again.
Once I got back to the ramp, I pulled the lanyard....only to find that the lanyard post had frozen in the up position.
Bad combination of events. I decided to quit for the day.
