SXR R&D Timing Advance

So I bought this timing advance because everywhere I read it said was quite good. I got this and there was no instructions and after exhaustive search for a PDF of instruction I just went for it. I took the ignition cover off and now I am at a loss for the next step. I have a small plate and a few screws and see nowhere they go. If you have installed one of these please help me with the next step. Thank you

The SXR has the strangest Jetting configurations I have come across. You can do the basics with no rejet and get some good gains. You can do the rejet and get some good gains. Bottom line, the SXR is a gas hog!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you should need is to check the plugs, you may not even have to adjust anything, or a small tweak. I found my SXR like having larger jetting and N/S with the timing plate, but I ran for months without rejetting and it ran good as well.

Lots of combo's.

I know but running the plate is sooooooooo much more work than simply jumping the temp sensor.

If I was this guy, I would just jump the sensor. I know the plate is more "accurate" but too much trouble.

Only reason I put adv plate in mine was because I got a factory wet pipe..

To install take the pickup off and stick plate on with screws. Shave down the pickup edge's so it will fit and install pickup and gasket and ya done

. . . or jump the temp sensor. Five seconds. Done.

No o-rings.

When the 04's came out, alot of the racers were doing all kinds of test. Cannot remember who had originally posted about it, but the jump you get with the jumper was not always 4 degree's, sometimes only 2. etc etc. With the plate you get to actually set the static timing. Plus you get to advance it + 6/7 degrees. I had a PJS that would let you get a little more but you had to notch the cover for clearance.

After a few days of messing with this I have it back together. Thanks for all your advice and help. It is too cold to ride now but the ski started and ran. I sure hope there is a noticeable difference. I will tell anybody the screws Kawasaki uses to mount the pulsar, which have to be removed, are made from some odd chrome bubble gum. The screws rounded with no hint of movement. My next hope is a rejetting is not in my future. Thanks again

With a stock ski, each part you add, does not make a huge difference in itself. It is the right combo of alot of little things can can really wake your sxr up.
