Quick question can you splice stator wires?

I forgot!
yes i have done it but use heat shrink to put them back together. your best bet is to use a msd 6 pin deutch connector. once you do that little mod you can pull motor or electronics seperate once the starter cable is undone.

You should use the heat shrink solder connectors with the glue if you are going to do it right. The but connectors are made with heat shrink and they are filled with solder. Just poke the wires in and start heating with a torch. They shrink down then solder the wires together inside and glue it all together forever no worries after that.

You can get them on ebay but they are expensive. search solder connectors here is a link of what I am talking about. http://www.calcentron.com/Pages/elektralink/elektralink_sealed_solder_connectors.html

You can also use the Perma Seal butt splice heat shrink connectors. You just crimp them and heat em up and the heat releases an adhesive while they shrink down around the wire. I have used them in my ski and they haved stayed tight and sealed up for years now. I found them at Lowes under the Gardner Bender Extreme branded version. You can also order them online here http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/st...toreId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=491305

Here is a link to the data sheet from the Molex, the original manufacturer of the connectors. They are the best I have used. http://www.molex.com/cmc_upload/common_files/11102004_050.pdf

Just like Crab said, solder and heat shrink. I use either dielectric silicone grease, De-ox or Oxyguard on the soldered splice before you slide the shrink tubing on. That way when it shrinks, the stuff oozes out the ends and you know its a water tight seal.
I recomend the silicone because you should use it on all your electrical connectors as well, like from the stator and your start stop switch.

Solder and heat shrink will work. This method requires more work and will last a while if done properly but the Perma Seals are quick easy and will last for years. Strip it, crimp it, heat it and you are done.
