Questions about coupler replacements

After I destroyed the coupler on the engine side, I decided to cut the remains off with a grinder. It came off, but I put some nicks in the threads. Just enough to keep the new umi coupler from spinning on freely. The coupler threads on easily about 3/4 of the way before it stops at the damage. I was thinking about a machine shop to clean up the threads, any quick ideas? Also what is the best way of removing the coupler from the drive shaft, that is still in the ski. Thanks, Mike

Get a thread file,it is a square file with 8 different thread patterns on it,you match up the thread pattern and run the file over the threads till they are straight again, this will take a while but it works like a champ.I know Snap -on ,Mac,Cornwell,Matco and others sell this type file,an internet search would probably turn up more suppliers.

I keep a thin blade shaped file handy for cleaning up threads.

The midshaft comes out by removing 3 bolts. You'll need to clamp the shaft to keep it from turning while you take the coupler off. There is a tool that fits into the coupler, or some use a 2x4.

It's easy to do with a metric thread file as WFO suggested above. If you want to do it right now just buy an easily available 3 cornered (triangular cross section) in a small size and file out the ridges between the threads. Works like a champ!
