Question on Spooge

Get your head out of the gutter, I'm not talking about that spooge.

Anyway, I know the amount of spooge in your exhaust is dependent on a couple of things (fuel mix ratio, jetting, cooling setup etc), but I am curious if there is one thing that can contribute to having an excess amount of spooge in your exhaust?

In your various times taking the exhaust apart, has your entire exhaust been completely dry?

When I took my engine out last night, I noticed that I seemed to have more spooge (actually liquid) in the exhaust itself.

Thoughts?

No like winter
The last time I had my exhaust apart the inside of the chamber (b-pipe) was completely coated, and it was pretty thick but it was also pretty dry. It wasn't really gummy or liquid more like the looks of powder-coated tar.

You are running 40:1 Amsoil correct?

Nah, that's Cook. He runs the Amsoil. I'm running 32:1 Penzoil. I think my problem is a combination of rich jetting and rich gas/oil mix ratio. I'm curious what others think.

Did you resend that email?

I never noticed your ski smoking. I run the penzoil premium plus blend 40:1 with no problems. We never did get your jetting/tuning on that carb 100% dialed in... did we?

I will resend it tomorrow.

The carb isn't a 100% yet. I'm pretty sure I can go leaner. I always prefer to be on the conservative side because I can't afford to break stuff on all the toys I have.

running 32:1 is crazy IMO, and needlessly leans the fuel air mix out.

Yamaha recommends 50:1 for a reason.

Rickster,
So I see your going to run your ski all stock? 50:1 is a sin for real high horsepower motors, by the way Yamaha doesn't really care that your motor will last more than a couple of years too, especially if you ride salt water. 50:1 will meet emissions but NOT protect the investment into a high dollar motor! Sorry bud, I have to call you on that one!!! You need to find somebody with one of my stroker motors I've built and ride it, I set-up all my motors to run 32:1, Your the cazy one here...

D-Roc

I forgot!
is your oil a low ash marine type like KLOTZ, I have alway run Klotz but last summer i ran Quicksilver and it is a low ash oil aswell but i noticed alot more build up than with the klotz.

The difference is that you set up your engines to run 32:1, i.e jetting, etc and use a ghigh quality oil, not Penzoil...

If I was running a lamey or a stroker, then I would go with the Builder's recommendations.

He has stated that he is running rich, and getting excess 'spooge' out the back, which is un-burnt fuel/oil, and IMO running 32:1 is un-neccesary.

Like I said, IMO...

Thanks. I knew I wasn't crazy. All the motors I've built I run with this mixture and never had a problem.

Any ideas why I'm seeing extra spooge (what appears to me to be extra)?

What is wrong with Penzoil synthetic mix? :dunno: Honestly, I've never had a problem before with it and when I tear down an engine I haven't seen any wear on parts. I am running rich but I'm talking only a couple jet sizes off from probably optimal.

So in your opinion, my problem is my jetting and oil ratio are both too rich? I'm just looking to solve my problem. Thanks for your help.
