Question on GP800 Starter

I had this starter for sale for what I am quite certain is a GP800:

Look at the picture. It has an additional (third) unmachined ear in the center between the two mounting bolt holes. Does anyone know what this is for? Or is this perhaps not a GP800 starter after all? I have a GP800 bottom end sitting here and I noticed that the unmachined ear is not on the starter that is on it. I was thinking that Yamaha changed the design somewhere along the way bcause it looks like the unmachined ear is not going to cause interference with mounting.

If i understand you right your looking at the middle ear with the clean contact surface. If this is the case that would be for the negative cable from the battery. If it's not machined you can easily cut threads into that.
