question about a sitdown

i never understood "buying a ski for friends to ride"

why spend your money on a ski for friends? they should buy their own skis AND still like you..... if theyre really your friends, that is.

No way Im keeping my 650 for friends, and pay maitenance, and I'd hate to ask for gas money if they were to use it. I'm bringing them to the Lanier ride though, so hopefully they'll see the light and buy an SJ.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a ski for your friends if you can afford it. Some friends aren't from areas where theres water and some just aren't that serious about riding ski's. It doesn't hurt to have a couch/boat laying around so you can get friends out to an island to hang out for the day.

I mean why would you ever have friends over for dinner and spend all that money buying food and drinks for them. That would just be ridiculous.

I will agree that you shouldn't have a ski for the friends that always bum rides off you. In that case they should get their own ski, but for the friends who aren't that into ski's(not all people love to ride as much as we do), but you would occasionally like to have out then I think that's great.

thats exactly it. I dont really have any friends that are into jetski's. so going to the lake or river by myself sucks. Also, you guys aren't thinking about this from a single guy's perspective. There are female friends too u know...

But that leads me to another question. Now that i have a much nicer standup, i really dont want all my friends riding it when we go to the lake. when i had a slow 550 i didnt care, but the superjet is my baby... They are going to be pissed if i dont let them. Do you guys let friends ride?

There is a guy in my area that is about 60 and he bought a couple of old WRIII skis a few years ago 91 and 93 I think. I worked on them and did some minor fix up stuff on them. He has been tickled pink with them ever since. He keeps them at his lake house and when they are there he lets them and friends ride them. He always talks about how much fun they are and how all of his family has a blast. Granted that none of them are anything more than weekend warriors and every now and then type of riders. They are perpetual newbies and don't care what kind of ski it is, how much HP it has, or how fast it will go. If you could get that WRIII for $500 or less then I would go for it if you are going to just let friends and newbies ride. That old 650 is a bullet proof engine and is plenty fun for that type of riding. I say go for it if it is in good shape.

on a different note do you want your friends flying around a lake at 50mph on YOUR ski?

just being on the water on something motorized is pretty fun for anybody that doesn't do it often. slower might be better, a SJ ain't speedster.

mine feels plenty fast. 701+dual buckshots+riva red pipe+tdr waterbox = pretty quick topspeed
but thats a good point about the pple riding this. they certainly dont need to be flying around, but i'll ride it too and i dont want to be bored out of my mind on it. I guess i'll be bored on any sitdown though.

About letting other people ride your ski... JUST SAY NO Unless their one of thoes friends that you would rebuild their motor for free....

Because that is what it would be like when they blow yours up or wipe it out

Also an older polaris 650 would be a cheap fun stable ski Plus you can have sex on a polaris the bars are in the right spot for a pillow... ... errr umm so I have heard

Get a 550 for your buds, its fun for them to try and fun for you to watch. Plus cheap!

just sold a 550. i knew i wouldnt ride it anymore after i got the SJ.

As for letting pple ride my ski, i'm going to be a lot more cautious this summer. Might let a few pple ride it for like 5 minutes once but thats about it. I just dont trust them, and only one would actually help me work on it.

The stand-up guys ive ridden with can ride it all they want though. They're extremely helpful.

A cheap slow sit down is a better choice than a GP1200 if you are looking for a friend/chic ski and not a sit-down for yourself. A 650 SJ is a 35-40 mph ski, so a 35-40 mph sit-down is fine.

Besides, the FIRST thing every sit-down newbie retard rider does is top it out. You don't need to be chasing a 60mph out of control sit-down across the lake/river.

Looks like you've got a 701 round nose. It might be a good idea to buy a 701 or 760 powered sit down, that way you might scavenge parts for reapirs to your SJ if necessary.

i got a couple 650sx's and two single and one double trailer for sale.

I say get a stand up. if any one wants to ride they can learn on the stand up. then they can't get out of control before they learn to ride. besides they will get tired of the sit down and want to ride your sj.

I have a WR500 that I have $400 in.
Good for my kids and their friends.
Slow and dependable, but good for noobies. Cheap on gas.
Noobies think they are "flying" going up the lake at 28 mph, and it is a lot safer than going faster.
Plus I can use it as a tow truck if my standup ever breaks down....:banghead:
