300/440/550 Q: about this "double bladder" exhaust setup

so my buddy picked up an 89 550js that was running in the full mod class... no engine retiered hull, but had the b.p. pump nozzle plate grate msd ing. hull braces etc... right but they had a double bladder in place of the water box,,, i have never seen that before and was wondering if any one else was familiar with this set up? pro's? con's? i was thinking of removing the west coast beer can box from my 89 modded 550 (to run it in my 91 sx550) and installing this double bladder set up if it would be worth it? thanks panman

I've never run anything like that on a 550. I'd suggest the best aftermarket pipe and waterbox you can get and go with that. Throw that hob gobble thing away. Yuk....

That's two old school stock 440 pre-muffs (resonators). Stock they used one between the pipe and the waterbox and the first mod most people made to their stock ski was to remove this and throw it out. I used to run one of these setups back in the day. What you're looking at is 2 resonators linked with a stock 650 exhaust elbow. It worked OK and wasn't too loud if you ran enough water through it.
