Q: about double bladder exhaust

so my buddy picked up an 89 550js that was running in the full mod class... no engine retiered hull, but had the b.p. pump nozzle plate grate msd ing. hull braces etc... right but they had a double bladder in place of the water box,,, i have never seen that before and was wondering if any one else was familiar with this set up? pro's? con's? i was thinking of removing the west coast beer can box from my 89 modded 550 (to run it in my 91 sx550) and installing this double bladder set up if it would be worth it? thanks panman

I'll tell you what it is . . . . . but you probably don't want to hear my opinion of it . . . . . .

It's two stock resonators from early Kawi 440's connected with an elbow.

Lazy/cheap sounds about as good a reason as any . . . . . . . :cool2:

but seriously . . . . . Stock 440 waterboxes are about the worst PWC component ever designed . . . . . "back in the day" a simple fix was to ditch it an run a single resonator only.

It was really loud and obnoxious that way but performed way better than with the stock waterbox. My guess is they put two together with an elbow like that to simulate the dual "Jet-craft" silencers that were being sold/used by some guys back then and to try to quiet it down some . . . . .

That's a piece of "Jetski history" right there baby . . . . . put it on ebay and some collector will buy it for eleventeen baziilion dollars to "restore" his old 440 race ski with . . . . . .


back to serious . . . . . If it's quiet enough that you won't make the rest of us look bad by annoying people with it. . . . . . what the hell . . . . . run it !
