pwc sales

I remember buying in 1990 my superjet for $3000. Every year after they went up in price without a ton of changes. Now their $6200 with minimal changes since 1996.

I know the dollar has gone down but damn double the price since the first model in 1990.

I refuse to buy a new superjet when they are not worth the price yamaha thinks the price should be. I will keep buying used and put the money saved towards mods.

Yamaha needs to give back at least a little r&d towards any new sj models.

I was wondering who would notice the 3D in my post.

I did but what does it mean? We need sales by model

PWC's were never cheap, the Waveblaster sold for almost $6,000 when it first came out. So figure what that price is with inflation, and compare it to a huge new 4-stroke for under $10,000 and you will see prices are actually becoming more reasonable.

I'm not sure why the Superjet is still $6,400 though, that's just stupid. It should be under $5,000 considering it hasn't changed in 10 years. I think they'd sell a ton if they priced them better. Oh well.

New models do help sales. The last year for the SXi-Pro was around 500 units if I remember correctly, and when the SX-R came out it sold like 2,500 units or so.

I agree, but going aftermarket is $$$$$$, at least twice the cost. QUOTE]

That is total :bs2:

Go buy a stock SJ and you still end up putting another $2-4K worth to get it freestyle worthy. Hell, just $700+ for a hood and nose piece alone....

Stock just does not cut it anymore, AM is where it's at IMHO.

around 95 was when couches got a lot faster and triples were starting in. Maybe thats why sales went up... who knows.

At least yamaha realized there is a market for not insanely high performance skis. The vx110 is like $7500, thats pretty cheap for a new ski. I'm surprised I don't see more of them, there are plenty of families who don't want 215 hp...

That is when SeaDoo started the MPH race (1993). Kawi and Yamaha had an agreement to keep skis in the 45 MPH range. Sea Doo in order to gain market share blew past with fatser skis. It forced Kawi & Yam to pump up the juice by 1995....which also ended up deadly....look at the PWC deaths from 95.

The Yamaha and Kawasaki triple came out in 1995. Then in 1996/1997 they got bigger. Good times back then  It was also around 1993-1994 that they got good looking hulls. Everything before then looked like it was from the 70's.

Evan, I would hope that supply and demand would dictate what they continue to sell. So far, to me it seems most people have already made up their minds that 2 stroke are done. But if nobody wanted em and nobody bought them would they just stop making skis or go back to 2 stroke where they could legally sell em? I hope I am too old to ride my SJ before they are all gone. and I continually remind people of the difference. Yes it is a better motor and will last longer and comes with a slew of electronic controls that make it more efficient and powerful but in the end it still won't hold up to the abuse it will have to endure in the surf at the hands of most riders- compared to a 2 stroke. But then again, I fix skis for money:sneaky: so go ahead tear em up- I like motor work.

I have a vx110 and love it. It is powerful enough for two people, efficient enough to go all day on fuel, and pulls a wakeboarder fine.

I personally only have about 10 hours on it since buying it new at the beginning of summer. My superjet gets all the use.

I saw a ton of them at Havasu. I'm glad to have a fourstroke for a sit down. I never have to tweak on it. When going from point a to b.

Also I love having a 2 stroke for my play toy. After hammering my sj, makes it easier knowing I can easily rebuild it while away from home if I need to.

What I'm trying to say is it's cool having both 2 and 4 stroke. I would dread having a 4 stroke standup. I would kill it first weekend out.

I'm just saying it is easy to spend twice the cost of a new Superjet, on an aftermarket one. There's no reason a lot of that cost can't be designed in from the factory, at current or a little more MSRP. For example, a new Octane was $8,000 totally tricked out. Really all they needed besides a better hull design was footholds
