PVC pipe on bunks

So today I snapped one of the bunks for my jetski when I was pulling the ski up. It was basically because I went cheap and didn't build it properly the first time.

Anyway, I have beefier bunks now and decided I would use PVC pipe on the bunks instead of carpet. I cut 1-1/2" pipe in half and laid it on the bunks. I then countersunk all screw holes so the screw heads wouldn't gouge up the ski. I'll try to get some pics if people are interested.

My question is...which is actually harder on the ski when ramping up onto it? Carpet or pvc? Either way, I think the rounded bunks will probably be better than the corner of a 2x4 so if carpet proves to be much better, I'll just glue some carpet on the pvc. It seems like the ski slides better on pvc though.

neither. you can use those micro wheels and buy them in strips . they are alot like the wheels on the razr scooters. idk where you would find them though...

Hmm, carpet vs. paint... not to bad

Semi hard plastic vs. paint... maybe not so good?

The ski should slide a lot easier now, but is that better?

i like the pvc bunks, makes sliding the ski on and off when its not in the water much easier. just make sure you support the pvc the whole length with a 2x4 or something so it doesn't break. also might want to stick a piece of 2x4 on the side so the pvc doesn't roll and crack when putting the skis on.

I use 2" electrical conduit.(PVC). It holds the ski just fine, but there is obviously some gel-coat staying behind when I unload. I heated and bent the loading ends to avoid sharp edges. I did not cut the pipe, but drilled 3/4" holes thru the tops so I could bolt thru the bottom. The 2" pipe gives about an inch of clearance between the hulls and the aluminum trailer. Keeps 'em nice & low.

Here is what mine looks like. The PVC just barely fits over the 2x4 so there's less flex.
